Roberts vote splits Democrats

The Democrats' deepening division over the Supreme Court nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr. has angered many of their party's political allies on the left, some of whom warn that a vote for the conservative jurist will not soon be forgotten.

No sooner had the nomination sailed through the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday -- with yes votes from three of the panel's Democrats -- than several of the most influential liberal groups were openly chastising them in a rare public display of intraparty infighting.

"We are disappointed that the Roberts nomination has moved forward and saddened that some Democrats chose to gamble on Roberts, a man who could fundamentally alter our cherished system of rights and protections," said Ellen Malcolm, president of Emily's List, which raises money to elect pro-choice candidates.

Ralph Neas, president of People for the American Way, said he was "especially" displeased with the Democratic senators who voted to confirm President Bush's nominee to be chief justice of the high court.

The liberal groups are just helping the Democrats put on a PR show. From their point of view, John Roberts replacing William Rehnquest changes nothing.

There's no DEMO split and YES they're worried about 2006.

Every current democratic senator and congressman is safe as far as the democrats are concerned. But, they have to put on a good show. The show is only for the democratic base which needs to see the democrats putting some kind of resistance against Bush and the republicans.

The democrats know that every person they have in office currently serves their purposes and that to threaten them with non-support would be like punching their own noses. It would hurt and they could possibly lose those seats if there were skimishes within their own ranks. So, they'll put on a good show and at the same time protect every seat they currently hold. They can't afford to lose any congressional or senatorial battles or they're done.

They'll save the histrionics for the next nominee and attempt to stretch out the nomination process as long as they can to get the most benefit leading into the 2006 elections. Gotta have something to fire up the base and get them out to vote and, Lord knows, they have NO policy proposals to do that.

If the MSM would only cover the far left kooks more and more, instead of only showing the "restrained" side of their antics. If one looked at the "peaceful demonstration" in D.C. last weekend on the TV news you might think she has a legitimate complaint about loosing a son in Iraq. But why isn't the MSM telling about her past and recite some of her radical quotes? We all know why they will not show that part.

I do not believe, in reality, Wisconsin to be a "Blue State."
I am convinced George W. Bush recieved the most "legal and legitimate" votes in the 2004 Presidential Election and I believe Kohl and Fiengold know that as well

Shoot, I don't think Feingold was actually elected in either of his races. You're darn tootin Feingold & Kohl know, but you're feeding my temptation to litigate the BS that's been happening here. I was disenfranchised by the first illegal vote cast & the only saving grace to it all is having a good Federal Prosecutor going after the easiest cases. The Governor vetoes all fixes to the situation & I've gotten to the point where I don't know whether to try to start a riot or to sue him. Watch news reports for the story about a middle aged woman, with no prior involvement in any kind of political activism getting arrested for throwing a brick through the window of some Donk hq in SE Wisconsin. I'll be screaming about the Dems stealing my vote as the police drag me off... lol

Feingold has been polling well for his POTUS run & is relying on some of his other actions to overcome the anger of the left for his vote on Roberts. I got a good laugh about his second amendment question in the Robert's hearing, which was nothing but an insertion of a newly discovered right position for him on it. Feingold is so far out on the left fringe, he has to scramble hard to the right to try to look more centrist, which is why he contradicts what you said earlier about the Dems running for POTUS.

Kohl... generally is more of a centrist, but reelection in '06 is looming & if the rumors about his extracurricular activities in Washington get out before then, he may need every fraudulent vote the Dems can muster for him.
