NEW YORK (AP) -- Yankees star Derek Jeter is the latest athlete to receive a threatening letter warning him to stop dating white women.
The letter was mailed to Jeter at Yankee Stadium and called him a ``traitor to his race,'' according to a story in Monday's editions of the Daily News. It warned him to ``stop or he'll be shot or set on fire,'' said a law enforcement source who the newspaper did not identify. It was not clear whether the source was speaking on condition of anonymity.

The sad thing is that many blacks have bought into this. Reminding me of the racial bigotry that is found among minorities. My daughter is 3/16 Native American and got a job as a PA for the movie "Tecumseh." She got it because her grandmother is an Indian and her uncle was almost elected chief of his nation. She does not "look" Indian in the least, so the "real" Indians on the set began making snide remarks about her. But she made friends with a Shawnee chief (who was a mixed-blood himself) and he shut them up. (helps if you are young and cute!). No cure for this stuff: it comes from a feeling of insecurity.

Anybody wants to lay a hand on Derek Jeter, they will have to get through a few million Yankee fans of a variety of races, religions, and flavors! We've got your back, Derek!
Jeter is a great player and a very mature young man. In my mind's eye he is always that agressive, smiling young Yankee who took the field at a very young age - he is always early 20s and just thrilled to be a Yankee!
I don't know how it will all work out along the way, but I agree with your conclusion: Yankees win the AL East, The Tribe rolls on, and Boston fails to be the wild card.

That is so interesting... I don't believe the media EVER mentioned her race. This is the first I've heard of her race. But, if it were a white, republican you better believe I would have been aware of it.

It seems this isn't as rare a phenomena as one would expect. Whites, blacks, male, female, all seem to fall into this malady. It stands for certain that any white Republican doing this would be crucified in print and hounded out of existance.
I though Jeter's mom was Jewish.

Are you suggesting Jeter wrote the letter for publicity? Anything is possible, but Clarence Thomas received a similar threat, and I doubt he'd have sent it to himself. But, one thing's for sure, whenever threats like that are faked, people are hesitant to believe the real thing.
It doesn't sound like the letter came from a "white" person because it's warning him to stop "being a traitor to his race." But I guess that's possible, too.

He is "half-white". Actually, my own children are "biracial", too, but we never use that term with them. If you asked them their nationality, they'd just tell you they're Americans. :-)
