Citizen Groups protest Prayer Requests: RITA

In the aftermath of hurricane Rita citizen groups are outraged and rallying to protest Prayer Requests made prior to Hurricane RITA.

“Who do these people think they are trying to alter natural events and occurrences?”, exclaimed Wilber Dunfast representing the Citizens for a FREE Society. “It isn’t enough that they want to pray in schools, at football and other sporting event. That’s bad enough but now they want to influence natural, global events!

Environmental groups such as Green Planet and Theosophists for a Clean Environment are outraged. “This is definitely a move engineered by big oil and real estate developers!” proclaimed J.W. Doolittle of Green Planet. “You can readily see that this was instigated by people with financial interests, the Big oil and coastal land developers”.

“There seems to be no way to stop this nonsense. Allow them to put meaningless mottos on our currency, symbols on our buildings, insert them into our Pledge of Allegiance and now this”

O.R. Freely, representing Citizens for Removing God From Society raged, “ If there is a God He gave man FREE Will! He should stay out of our affairs entirely! Every time these people see a problem they run to God, as though they can’t handle it themselves!”

Citizens for Population Reduction, President George Owful, commented,” These people shouldn’t have built or populated these areas anyway. If something happens it is own their fault. It was the big companies, factories and refineries and greed that brought them in. The country would be better off rid of all of them!”

Some groups see this as interfering with economic growth and development. “ Just look at the massive unemployment in this country! A devastating, natural disaster is good for the economy. Look at New Orleans. This is bringing in massive money and assistance. The cleanup and reconstruction will provide employment for years. This is good. Look at the area before KATRINA. These people obviously want to stand in the way of progress!” said J.R. Trudy representing Citizens for Urban Renewal.

Either omniscient God makes perfect decisions or praying can influence him to change his mind. Which is it?

Maybe all our prayers lifted up for these people can alter the storms that are in their hearts and souls!

Omniscient God makes perfect decisions, however he isn't in the business of reading our minds and making all these perfect decisions for us as some sort of overgrown cosmic butler. Prayer exists at the intersection of these truths.

people don't pray for the path of a hurricane, they pray that God will give them the strength to endure what ever is in his plan. That is what you don't understand. By the way, we have all seen George Carlin's stand up routine so recognize it for the agnostic pseudointellectual bs that it really is.

or maybe the prayers were, and are, for protection of the people who were in the storms way, for the protection of the first responder, for wisdom for those in charge of the recovery...noone thinks that God would move the storm from one city to another. We pray as people have prayed for generations, that the Creator God Who sustains us, will protect us.

don't pick on the personal interpratations of prayer...any truly logical person cannot rule out the existence of God. If you think you can, you haven't really thought things out. Go as far back as you want to with science or any other theories that you may have and they all run out of juice at some point. After that you are left with no answers except for one. Take all religions aside and really think about it. The parts of the Universe that we are able to perceive are very limited but expanding every day. The more we learn, the more we realize that science does not contradict the existence of God but enforces it.

Depends on whether your worldview includes a God who is only "pie-in-the-sky-bye-and-bye".....
...OR...
Who remains proactive and interacive in the history of humankind, responding to prayers and the cries of those He calls His own....

The God of the Bible remains omniscient, and omnipotent, yet moves in accordance with the precepts, principles, patterns, prophecies, promises.... and the PRAYERS of those who have freely elected to acknowledge Him and engage in an ongoing relationship this side of the "bye-and-bye"...

Jesus made this profound announcement:
The kingdom of heaven is near.. repent and believe the good news.... (Gospel of Mark 1:15)

Have a great day

Thanks for the update Dvan.
Seems that not all our prayers were answered... if this bunch of hateful, uncaring, intolerant old fuddy duddys are still around to mouth their silly opposition to normal folks doing private personal religious practices.
Then again, maybe some other appropriate fate is being saved for this bunch.

I certainly HOPE so.

(Notice, I did'nt say "pray" ?)

Funny isn't it? No one was asked to pray who didn't want to pray. Wonder why they are so offended? I will pray if I want to and they don't have to pray if they don't want to. Seems easy to me. Thought we lived in a Free Country!

' "O.R. Freely, representing Citizens for Removing God From Society raged, “ If there is a God He gave man FREE Will! He should stay out of our affairs entirely! Every time these people see a problem they run to God, as though they can’t handle it themselves!” '

I am not niave. I know there are truly many people like this man in this world.

What is so ironic - His comment 'if there is a God he gave them Free Will' - how can you believe in Free Will without believing there is a God? Free Will is definetly a Christian term - and if he does not believe, funny he should qoute something that has no meaning to him.

I truly feel sorry for this man and all who stand with him - as one day he will be judged, and his Free Will to deny God all these years will be revoked.

Further, one thing No One can do is stop people from praying. Yes, people do turn to God in times of crisis - now if they will only start turning to Him in good times as well - then the Glory will come back to this society.

We cannot handle things ourselves - contolling things on our own has caused these problems in the first place. When God is taken out of schools, government and society - it is then that satan runs rampant and things fall to the ground.

Has there not been enough devastation since 9/11 and before for people to see that turning away from God is the problem - not leaning on Him more?

Protest away, Citizen Group Against Prayer - one day you will find yourself in an hour of need - and guess who will be there for you - even though you do not deserve it? Remember, the harder you push Him away - the harder the Christians in this world push to bring Him more and more into the world's view.

Congratulations for bringing His name to the attention of some who may not know Him, but will choose to open their hearts to Him! What a great witness you have been !JK

" Whatsoever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them " Mark 11:24

So...many of us did pray that God would diminish the effects of Rita? and if that's "interfering with nature" so be it. Jesus calmed storms by His words. Certainly He and we are more important than storms. Keep the prayers rolling folks and steamroll over unbelief...there's GREAT benefits in believing/receiving prayers. AMEN!

AMEN!!!! The Power of Prayer is stronger than ANYTHING on this earth.God hears all of our cries, and does answer.

'When ever two or more of you are gathered in His name...'

I Praise God when I pray and ask for things - because I have the Faith that He will do what is best for me. It is such a pity that so many do not know how simple it is.

Faith - that greatest thing I have discovered in this lifetime - other than Christ Himself!

JK

Odd statement, coming from the same side that blames it all on Global Warming.
