(Charles City - KCRG) -- Noel Miller's fiancé Casey Frederiksen is in a hospital after attempting suicide Wednesday night. Noel is the mother of murder victim Evelyn Miller.
It's been three months since the five-year-old girl's death. Investigators still have not arrested anyone in connection to the case. Thursday, Noel talked to KCRG-TV9 News about what led Casey to hurt himself.
Police drove Frederiksen to a Charles City hospital around 7:00 p.m. Noel said she was shocked when she watched Frederiksen cut his wrist. "I was just...Oh my God. I couldn't believe what he was doing. I called 911, and I was trying to get the knife away and the cops were trying to mace him. They took his arm and he slammed the arm he cut...slammed it over his head. Then, he broke his rib. And, his collar bone is all messed up," Miller said.
Miller says a number of things prompted Frederiksen to cut his wrist. "The enforcement, and [Floyd County Attorney] Marilyn Dettmer and no answers to Evelyn's death. The people are still out running in the streets. He just doesn't know what to do anymore," she said.
Diane Miller is Noel's mom. She says Frederiksen has trouble with anger sometimes, but he would never hurt anyone but himself. "He never lashes out at a person. He'll lash out at a tree, a wall, a steel post, my car. But, he's never bodily harmed nobody but himself," Diane Miller said.
Noel says she still wants to find Evelyn's killer. But, now she's worried about Casey, too. "He's doing ok. He's just a little frustrated, and doesn't know how to deal with things so he lashes out on himself," Noel Miller said.
Frederiksen is in a Mason City hospital now under observation. Noel expects him to be back at home in Charles City on Monday.

(Perhaps he had been reading this newspaper article.)Slain girl's mother says pressure led to fiance's injuries
CHARLES CITY (AP) Evelyn Millers mother said her fiance cut his wrist with a knife out of frustration with the pressure from law enforcement officers and their failure to find her daughters killer. When he is hurting, he hurts himself, Noel Miller said Thursday.
Her fiance, Casey Frederiksen, cut his wrist on Wednesday. He had been reading a newspaper article in which Evelyns father, Andy Christie of Waterloo, had been critical of her and Frederiksens parenting, just before he cut his wrist, Miller said.
Miller said it took six stitches to close the cut. Frederiksen is recovering in a Mason City hospital and should be released by Monday, she said.
Five-year-old Evelyn Miller disappeared July 1 from the apartment in Floyd where she lived with her mother, Frederiksen and two young brothers.
Her body was found six days later in the Cedar River, about two miles from her home. Her death has been ruled a homicide, but details about how and when she was killed have not been released. No arrests have been made.
Miller and Frederiksen moved to a house in Charles City after Evelyns funeral. Miller said her neighbors have treated her and Frederiksen with suspicion and hostility.
They stand outside and watch us all the time, she said.
Lance Miemi, 25, said he heard screaming and bickering at the Miller and Frederiksen home about 7 p.m. Wednesday. After police and medics arrived, Miemi said he saw a police officer throw a knife into the front yard. Then, he said, he saw Frederiksen run out the back door.
Two cops took him down and handcuffed him, he said.
Frederiksen, with a bandage on his wrist, then was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, Miemi said.
Fiance of Evelyn Miller's mother ordered to hospital
By Jennifer Meyer Staff writer, Charles City PressThe fiance of Evelyn Miller's mother has apparently been court-ordered to receive further care after cutting his wrists Wednesday night.
Casey Frederiksen was seen waiting outside a squad car in the ambulance bay at Floyd County Memorial Wednesday with two Floyd County sheriff's deputies at about 9:30 p.m. A sheriff's office document shows that at 9:28 p.m. two deputies transported a male mental subject from the hospital to the behavioral services unit at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.
According to the hospital's Web site, the unit offers psychological evaluations, psychotherapy and psychiatric care, among other services.
The report states the male subject was transported on an order from a magistrate judge.
Frederiksen, lying on his stomach and with his bandaged wrists restrained behind his back, was carried from his back yard on a stretcher and placed in an ambulance about 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police and ambulance personnel were dispatched at 6:22 p.m. following a report that a male had cut his wrists at the 902B E St. residence that Frederiksen shares with Noel Miller, Evelyn's mother.

Neighbors reported hearing yelling and screaming coming from the house just before police and paramedics arrived Wednesday.
A woman visiting neighbors at the time of Wednesday's incident said Frederiksen ran out the back door about 10 minutes after police entered.
Several neighbors also reported seeing a bloody knife thrown from the front door onto the lawn after police entered the house.
Charles City Police Chief Mike Wendel said Thursday that no charges have been filed as a result of the incident.
Miller left the residence a short time after the ambulance departed with Frederiksen, witnesses said.
Last week, Miller and Frederiksen told KCRG-TV they feel they've been unfairly targeted by investigators and judged by the community. The day before, investigators searched the couple's former apartment complex in Floyd.
Evelyn's father, Andy Christie, of Waterloo, told KCRG-TV Wednesday night that he hasn't spoken with Noel Miller since his daughter's memorial service.
Christie and his wife, Lindsey, said they contacted the Iowa Department of Human Services after Evelyn said some unusual things but, ''DHS never believed anything we said.''
Whether this guy is guilty or not; mommy needs to RETHINK this relationship. But she won't, of course.......because she LOvvvvvvvvvves him. gag.
Thank God those other babies of these two are under state custody.
Is it just me, or does Noel seem to be an enabler/apologist for this guy?""
This scenario happens far too often, and far more often, it is the "boyfriend", who is usually not the father of the child is the perp.
There is a genetic defect in these women, I think.
As others have noted, Ms. Miller had two younger children, allegedly with Mr. Fredricksen. They have been in foster care since shortly after the murder.
This suicide attempt will at least make it likely that they will regain custody.
Are you being sarcastic?
She had Evelyn's body cremated?
Yes, this article about the funeral mentioned a "tiny urn."
I trust the medical examiner had ample opportunity to gather all the necessary evidence.
that should have read "less likely"
I live just a few blocks from Noel and Casey and believe me the whole town suspects Casey and Noel, but apparently the authorities do not have the right information to arrest this guy on even a simple charge just to put him behind bars so he doesnt run. I am really begining to think that this case will remain unsolved.
Could be a guilty conscience that caused him to 'attempt' suicide.
I, too, am local and close to the situation. Casey had a history of self-abuse. This was not a suicide attempt, it was a cutting incident that got out of control. I'm not on the "Casey did it" bandwagon. If you knew this couple you'd know who is in charge, and it's not Casey. He exhibits classic signs of being an abused spouse. It's rare, but abusive women do exist in our society. Who talks to the press? Noel. And if you pay close attention her story changes depending on the outlet. To one reporter she says it's the stress of the situation. To another she says it's the cops or the neighbors bothering them. To another, she says it's the interview that Andy and Lindsey Christie gave. Never does she point in the direction where it should be pointed...HERSELF. She was home with Casey when he did this. They were having an argument at the time. Neighbors could hear her screaming at him. Watch some of the videos posted online at www.kcrg.com. Does she look abused to you? If you ever had the opportunity to meet her (and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy), I'm sure you'd feel as I do...that she's anything BUT a victim.
I also think that the reality of this situation is lost on many posters in this forum. Casey and Noel have lived together for most of Evelyn's life. Casey was present in the hospital when Evelyn was born. Casey was the stay-at-home caregiver for all three children because Noel (admittedly) wasn't good with the kids.
Unlike other locals, I do believe an arrest will be made, and I don't believe it will be Casey taken into custody.
Thank you for posting your thoughts; I appreciate your perspective on all of this.
As more news comes available, it'll be posted here on FreeRepublic.
Seems like she's more worried about her boyfriend than finding her daughter's murderer. I'm always mystified at the women who seeming abandon their families for some new guy who comes along.
Well, this isn't exactly one of those situations. As I understand it, (1) there was no "family" for Noel Miller to abandon (she and Andy Christie, the bio father, split before their baby was born), and (2) Casey Frederiksen is/was a very close friend of Christie's and I gather he has pretty much been by Miller's side since Evelyn's birth.
I suspect the use of the term "fiance" to describe Frederiksen is contributing to the readers' misunderstanding of these facts. He's been around long enough to father two children by her; has anyone seen mention of a set wedding date?
Noel has never impressed me as a mother who is truely broken hearted by the death of her baby girl.
I agree with you.
Considering all you have said, I have to still say that it is all quite odd and I am sure there are many facts that still need to come out. Too much of what I have read makes no sense, is illogical. The child is dead and someone is responsible and is not telling the truth.
psst...
