There's nothing in the Atlantic at the moment that is remotely a threat to the US other than Rita.

Have you seen the PowerPoint presentation about Galveston flooding?

What did you decide to do for the storm?

Here's the historical track of all September storms passing within 300 miles of Rita. You can see that they rarely come into Texas.

Storm clearly re-strengthening now, and still moving more and more north of track! (per satellite loops)

Heads up Louisiana FReepers...

I got an email from a friend who evacuated Houston last night. She said they took all the backroads they could around the clogged highways, but it still took us 6 hours to get to the NW side of Houston and 10 hours to get to Austin. Does that explain it?

Update from The Woodlands. Due to the fact that I-45 is officially a parking lot, I will not be leaving town. I have been offered shelter at the home of a friend in the area.

It would be a dumb move for me to try and get out of town right now.

I guess for the time being, I will enjoy watching the local news guys talk to the cantankerous old guys who have decided to stay in Galveston.

ContemptofCourt. Thank you for your concern but I know what I am doing. You have to understand where I live. I am not in the voluntary or mandatory evacuation area. I am NW of Houston in Cypress ( http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&location=lMAJSMlre4z8DgZNYHAc8CJtyiXxjY87ayW31%2fs3aIrTv%2btcbcLpH9O%2binVaPV2%2biLuzOWO3eWamgdV2Ux2sO7Zj266yhG%2fe
)

Channel 11 just said the track has changed and it is headed more for Beaumont. Praise the Lord!!

Crap, now Governor Blank-oh is going to be in charge over the worst part of the storm. More crying on the way.

Here's the latest storm track. Rita is moving northward a little more quickly than anticipated yesterday. This latest track puts landfall slightly to the east of Galveston. Click on the picture below for a larger view.

Even though you may be on the "clean side" of the hurricane, there will be numerous tornados.

See how this thing tracks, and if the roads clear up. Then reconsider. In any case, be ready to go. If you stay, be prepared for about a week without water, power and sewer services. Can your kids take the 100 degree heat for a week?

In any case, you and your family are in my prayers.
