ITHACA ANTI-WAR PROTESTORS SPLASHED SOLDIER WITH BLOOD

BINGHAMTON, NY—A U.S. soldier has testified in federal court Tuesday (September 20) that he was splashed with human blood by anti-war protesters during a 2003 protest.

The soldier, Staff Sgt. Rachon Montgomery, was working as an army recruiter on March 17, 2003, the day that four protesters threw their own blood around a recruiting center in Lansing, NY, a suburb of Ithaca. As a result of the incident, press reports indicate, Montgomery was tested for blood-borne illnesses such as HIV and hepatitis.

In addition to Montgomery, the protesters also poured blood on the American flag, a military banner and the walls and floor of the center.

The protesters, Clare Grady, Teresa Grady, Peter De Mott and Daniel Burns, all of Ithaca, are currently on trial in Federal Court in Binghamton on charges of conspiring to impede the duties of U.S. officials and damaging or injuring federal property and officials. The conspiracy charge, the most serious, carries up to six years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The protesters, who have dubbed themselves “the St. Patrick’s’ Day Four,” while admitting to their actions, claim they have done nothing wrong. The four, who are representing themselves, claim that their actions were legally justified because they did it to stop the United States from invading Iraq.

That defense was accepted in an earlier state court trial in Ithaca, which resulted in a hung jury.

However, according to the New York Times, District Court Judge Thomas McAvoy “is allowing the defendants to talk about their state of mind at the time of the protest in their opening arguments, but not to raise their belief that the Iraq war was illegal or immoral.”

The group’s supporters, many of whom are from the Ithaca, have conducted a daily vigil outside the courthouse, protesting, making speeches and conducting mock trials of the Bush administration. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

In response, a counter protest Image hosted by Photobucket.com, made up of veterans and others from around the state, has demonstrated their solidarity with the troops and the President.

given the usual pasttimes of many more extremist liberals- recreational drug use, casual sex- I'm kind of worried about the good Staff Sgt.'s health.

...when it won't stop pouring from their noses.

Noses? I was thinking ears.

Protest I'm okay with. Tossing blood? That's assault and battery. Diseased blood? That's ADW. High time for some serious rock 'em, sock 'em kinda legal smack-down, here.

If the recruiter beat the schnot out of all 4, and I were on his jury, I would not convict him.

The 4 biohazard-spewers are lucky the trial was in ithaca.

"threw their own blood around"

I believe their fine should be that they be sent to Iraq where the enemy will help them "throw their own blood around"

The left-wing looney-tunes moonbats must be going out of their minds (what's left, anyway) as they slowly come to the realization that the massive "peace" protests of the 1960's are a thing of the past. They've tried everything, but just like the packages from Acme that constantly arrive at Wile E. Coyote's doorstep, all their efforts fall apart.

Nothing has worked for them, not even the "grieving mother" shtick. Cindy's moonbat circus at Crawford actually had the opposite effect. Instead of "galvanizing" the "peace" movement, her little ditch theater was suddenly surrounded by hordes of people who believe in the United States, and who support our troops and their mission.

And to add insult to injury, Hanoi Jane's Mazola Tour, or whatever it was going to be called, sputtered to the side of the road.

The bumping sound you hear is liberal nutcases across the country banging their heads on their keyboards and tables.

If one of those freaks has AIDS or Hepatitis, it should be assault with a deadly weapon.

I think there needs to be a concerted effort to confront these people Violently. If they want to splash their own blood around, then by GOD let's help them.

I will NOT sit around and watch these dope smoking maggots do what they did to my father and others in the 60's.

Enough is Enough.

The sixties are over. These clowns are so out of touch,
they don't even know....There are two whole generations
that have come and are now approaching responsible adulthood, and these folks are still shouting,
"on strike, shut it down", "war is not the answer",
and "it's the system"....too many drugs, not enough
work will do that to someone...

Regardless of whether or not they have AIDS or Hepatitis, it is DEFINITELY improper disposal of hazardous medical waste.
