Don't know about the cruise ships, but here's some solid info on the Navy ships they were using in the relief effort:

Navy ships leave New Orleans in preparation for Rita

Monday, 7:30 p.m.

Three Navy ships that have been used in New Orleans' recovery efforts since
Hurricane Katrina are leaving the metro area in preparation for Tropical Storm Rita, a Navy spokeswoman said.

The USS Tortuga left the Crescent City on Monday and the USS Iwo Jima and USS Shreveport could leave Tuesday or Wednesday, the spokeswoman said.

Experts project Rita to make landfall later this week as a Category 3 storm as far east as Terrebonne Parish.

The Iwo Jima which has been berthed at the Julia Street wharf has been used as a hospital. The ship also was a launching point for helicopters involved in search and rescue missions and President Bush landed there during visits to the city and used it as a back drop for a news conference.

The ships were being moved to sea to avoid damage to the vessels being tied up to port.

I have a terrible feeling that Rita is going to find her way to NOLA. I pray not.

I received an email saying that Clear Creek ISD was closing tomorrow also but their website doesn't confirm that. Has anyone received any confirmation about school closings tomorrow?

LOL!. From the article regarding Perry declaring disaster area:

"A FEMA official is already at the State Operations Center, which went on full alert status today with 34 state agencies on site around the clock, said Perry spokeswoman Kathy Walt.

"FEMA has already been part of this. They have offered whatever support we need,'' Walt said. "Texas is not Louisiana. You won't see that breakdown occurring here.''

Think about it.

NO is not salvageable. Nobody will say it but it's as true as the sun coming up tomorrow. Rita would be a great mercy were it to hit NO and finish off a tradjedy that now threatens to be a deadly crisis to our entire nation. We will bankrupt ourselves tryin to 'fix' this swamp ... unless Rita saves us.

Better a dead NO than another destroyed city .... Galveston.... corpus Christi?

She would have to stall in the central GOM for there to be a chance of a NOLA hit. With the ridge building east over the southern U.S., I just don't see that happening.

Just waiting for the nutbags to comment on how President Bush responded so quickly for Texas.

Just waiting for the nutbags to comment on how they saw ion beams hit the eyewall just before she quickly ramped up from TS to Cat 2.

Maybe it was Calypso Louie's mothership that did it.

I just heard on the local news in Dallas....that Dallas will NOT be taking any Houston evacuees...that they would be sent to New Mexico and Arkansas.

No "Q" storms (not enough "Q" names to maintain six lists plus retirees).

Also no U,X,Y, or Z storms.

So the 22nd storm, if it happens, would start over at "A" and follow the Greek alphabet. That hasn't happened since they started naming storms a half-century ago.
