Cowardice, thy name is Burger King: Burger King recalls sacrilegious desserts. (Hat tip: efuseakay.)
THE fast-food chain, Burger King, is withdrawing its ice-cream cones after the lid of the dessert offended a Muslim.
The man claimed the design resembled the Arabic inscription for Allah, and branded it sacrilegious, threatening a jihad.
The chain is being forced to spend thousands of pounds redesigning the lid with backing from The Muslim Council of Britain. It apologised and said: The design simply represents a spinning ice-cream cone.
The offending lid was spotted in a branch in Park Royal last week by business development manager Rashad Akhtar, 27, of High Wycombe.
He was not satisfied by the decision to withdraw the cones and has called on Muslims to boycott Burger King. He said: This is my jihad. How can you say it is a spinning swirl? If you spin it one way to the right you are offending Muslims.
A Muslim Council spokesman said: We commend the sensitive and prompt action that Burger King has taken.
I mean crap -- if the guy had been smart, he'd have sold the damned thing on E-bay .... "A perfect companion piece to the "Virgin Mary On Toast!"
why
The ice cream lid or the religion? ;)
I'd like to be the guy that supplies that rope too.
They had a Iraqi guy on that was arrested and taken to jail
for absolutely no reason, according to the guy. He said that
they tortured him in barbaric ways. Way too gruesome to mention
here. I'd get the boot, or at least the post would be pulled.
They were some really twisted dudes over there...thats for sure.
If that wasn't sarcasm, I suspect it came from a troll.
Are these guys part of the ACLU?
the coffee?
These idiot mohammedans need to try de-caf.....or else get a less stupid cult.
---
Or to paraphrase comedian Emo Philips (on Scientology but it might apply here also), I don't even like NON-evil forms of stupidity.
Good catch-pork in the kitchen should mean no muslims at Burger King.
"I mean -- if this kind of thing became commonplace, there would be reasonable outlet for resulting hatred of Americans for muslims."
You been hidin' under a rock? Muslims do this kind of thing all of the time. Islam will be slithering its way somewhere near you soon......Are you ready to convert? Or face the consequences.
Islam: Nothing BEER couldn't cure.
If this had been an attempt to copy or forge the name of Allah, the forger was inept.

in terms of their Islamic use and intend to purge our culture of anything shared with Islam we have much bigger problems than an arc of Red Maples - for example we are going to have to start by removing depictions of Jesus - who is believed in Islamic theology to be an honorable if imperfect and misguided profit of Allah - from our churches!
Of course, we dont intend to let some mullah tell us who Jesus is and IMO its just as degrading to let their use in other cultures dictate to us the meaning of various designs and symbols of long traditional use in our own.
In related news, a Chicago man was killed Sunday by an enraged muslim after the mustard squiggles he made on his hamburger looked suspiciously like allah in Arabic.
I had no idea this object was associated with a muslim terrorist act! http://rclsgi.eng.ohio-state.edu/~bhandari/chicagosnaps/Millenium%20Park.JPG Wow! By adducing it as in some way parallel to the PA crash site, I assume you are suggesting that.
Is this for real?
No. I'm pointing out that in "Western Culture" (and in fact in many cultures) vertical objects arranged in an arc or curve, and arches, arches and curves generally (not infrequently illuminated to a golden or red color at night) are *common* forms of memorial and monumental architecture, that this tradition and not some "Islamic crescent" is what the architects of the memorial are referencing, and that in my opinion the people upset about this are dingbats ignorant of their own Western cultural traditions.
Here here are a few examples - these are ones that came to mind offhand just thinking of War Memorials where I could quickly find a pic, there are literally thousands of others :
