Patch Adams: Bush 'fascist' 14/08/2005 12:27 - (SA)
Lima - A US doctor known for his signature use of "laughter therapy" and social activism used his acceptance speech for a health care award to blast President George Bush and materialism in society.
Dr Hunter "Patch" Adams, who was the inspiration for the 1998 movie starring Robin Williams, was awarded the first ever Excellence in Health Care Prize presented by the Lima-based Global Organisation for Excellence in Health.
The organisation is sponsoring an international health care conference in Lima next week.
Adams, 60, with a gray waist-length ponytail streaked blue, expressed "shame for our fascist president," referring to Bush, and told reporters that the only way global health will improve is if "we stop worshipping money."
Adams expressed his disgust with war in Iraq, offering his sympathy for the "unfortunate soldiers who are serving corporations" there.
"Excellence in health means devoting your life to ending poverty," said Adams who has worked as a physician for 35 years.
"My work is to end violence, and to bring harmony to people," Adams said, repeatedly expressing his repulsion for society's preoccupation with "superficial" concerns, like "sports and Paris Hilton" hotel heiress and reality series star.
"It's humiliating that a person who kicks a ball makes more money than a school teacher," Adams said.
Adams was wrapping up a five-week trip to Peru - his third in the past three years - during which he travelled to the northern Amazon city of Iquitos, where he visited prisons, orphanages and Aids clinics.
"They had every reason to be sad and angry, yet people were instantly friendly, engaging and giving," said Adams who has visited many poverty-stricken or war-affected areas throughout the world.

Its to bad Hollywood was soft on letting their audience know this man is a Marxist.

I used to be into him. I had his book. I was disappointed that I spent the money when I read he'd allow abortions at his hospital and no one should 'judge' an abortion. Creepy clash of ideals imho.

What a shame that one of my most beloved (late) animals was named "Patch."
Thankfully, I named my critter for his markings and not in honor of that hollow-headed idiot Marxist.

So he wants to ban football and "Simple Life." He's managed to write off 3/4 of the population right there. Oh, and he doesn't like corporations, but hates poverty. Who's gonna hire everyone? Oh, silly me, his non-fascist government.

Hollywood loves making quasi-accurate movies about lefties who gain a following doing something quarky in their choosen fields. Just check out Frida (liberal latin american painter), Dead Man Walking (liberal convent sister), etc.
On second thought, DON'T check them out

Especially one with a "gray waist-length ponytail streaked blue." Dear heaven, I'll be so glad when the last of these loud mouth, know-nothing, socialist loser 60s' hippies fades into oblivion. And I'm a baby boomer, too!

From the article: "Adams, 60, with a gray waist-length ponytail streaked blue, expressed 'shame for our fascist president,' referring to Bush, and told reporters that the only way global health will improve is if 'we stop worshipping money.' incompetent narcissists like me, 'Patch' Adams, focus on healing patients..."

I suppose he gives all of his money to charity and lives in a shack, or under a bridge right?

His hospital is called Gesundheit which in German means Health. I guess Patch must not care about the health of all the people Saddam slaughtered?
I guess he would rather have the same fixed delusion the United Nations had when they ignored resolution 1441.
He always did strike me as being a Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan and Moveon.org type of guy.

"My work is to end violence, and to bring harmony to people," He sounds like a Miss America contestant, except he didn't say 'whirled peas'.
Loser.

"It's humiliating that a person who kicks a ball makes more money than a school teacher, Adams said. For someone who says thinks we should "stop worshipping money", the good doctor seems awfully obsessed with how much money other people make.
To: april15Bendovr
I never got to see that movie about him. Now I know I will not.
To: april15Bendovr
He's a doctor? By the read, it looks as though he didn't receive much of an education. I hope he knows medical terms better than he knows political ones--to say that Bush is a fascist--well, he is obviously referring to himself. While it's true, teachers SHOULD make more than performers or athletes, like doctors, the best teachers are those that do it for the work, not for the money.
"They had every reason to be sad and angry, yet people were instantly friendly, engaging and giving,"
See, that's a lib for you. I've traveled to (worked in many 3rd world countries side by side w/the "poor" folks) and noticed that the most miserable folks on earth, or at least that I've encountered, are LIBS and they have EVERY REASON NOT TO BE SAD AND ANGRY, YET THEY ARE HATEFUL, RESENTFUL, BIGOTED, STINGY, JUDGEMENTAL AND MOST OF ALL, MEAN.
To: april15Bendovr
I think that simple assclown Adams is right where he belongs. He should stay there.
