Right,
Nagain and Blanko are going to get control of a HUGE chunk of the hundreds of billions of dollars; if he does not give them the money they are going to cry "White racist Bush" on EVERY TV, radio and MSM media outlet and true to form; so as to not "offend them" he will relent. How can I come to this dire conclusion? Because tonight, on national TV the President blamed the problem on, to quote him: "poverty" and "racism"! That is a flat out lie and he knows it. However, so as to not offend or continue to be called a "heartless racist" and a "hater of the poor," he said the problems were the direct result of racism and poverty.
If he does not have the courage to be honest with us regarding the negligence of Nagain and Blanko because his poll numbers are down and he does not want to offend minorities, how can we trust him to NOT give Nagain and Blanko control once they begin to pull the poverty/race card once he refuses to give them control?

First, to all those that think what GWB proposed tonight is outside the bounds of the federal government, I would point you to the preamble of the Constitution...
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Obviously, it is the obligation of all the states united to "promote the general welfare." OK you and other passionate posters here mean well, and are compassionate. But it is this type of emotional thinking that is eroding the our tattered Constitutional Republic and Federalist system. To "promote the general welfare" the several states ceded some of their autonomy and created a Federal system with certain very specific powers granted, and only those powers specifically granted. It didn't mean that the Federal government had the authority to do whatever it felt was in "the general welfare." That would (and does) justify anything. The erosion of Constitutional government will do more damage, (I believe even in terms of pure economics) than Hurricane Katrina itself.

Calm and rational? You call him mad and call that rational and calm both. It's (1) wrong about a very sane and calm man -- George Bush and (2) speaks to your own uncalm and not quite rational in this matter mind-set.
However calling your words a "direct threat" is not calm nor rational either. It's the same kind of chicken-littleism you threw out against oue President being thrown back at you, though. Your own post set the benchmark for how to respond to you.
And all your posts on the need to be finanically circumspect with other people's money, to expect some reasonable performance of the fiduciary duty to the nation's checkbook our Chief Executive must have -- all those points lost in the reaction to a poor phrasing, a bad eye and bitter word directed at the President.

Bush is counting on Jesse Jackson and the Reverend Al Sharpton dropping by the Oval Office for a piece of the pie. Bush is in a position to buy JJ and Reverend Al. Bush has already flipped Nagin.
Bush will receive them with open arms. Rainbow/PUSH and the National Action Coalition simply want to get their beaks wet, as was said in Godfather, Part II.
Julian Bond, Tavis Smiley, and the NAACP crowd, however, can go hang. Not until they start acting nice to Condi.
This is all about money. It's a Republican Congress' chance to play New Dealer to Black America. They won't let this chance go by. The Donks are going to be frustrated spectators. Pubbie President, too.

All of you who are tarring President Bush with the LBJ brush, tonight, either don't remember anything at all about LBJ and that era, or weren't old enough back then to know what he said and did.
