Exactly!!!
People that are bitching about this DON'T realize how vital New Orleans is to the economy of this country, both nationally and internationally.
If they don't like it that we are in an international economy, they need to wake up. With same day Business flights from Europe and overnight flights from Japan, its asinine to think that business cannot be conducted that way.
sorry for the tangent. :)

Morris on H & his comments: This is a seminal moment in American history. Bush's speech rose to the occasion magnificently.
He showed his compassion and there are conservative principles in the rebuilding effort. HBush presented a model to take people out of poverty based on conservative principles......small businesses, home ownership, free enterprise....

Well, now..........of all the posters on this thread, you may be the most dense, absent of basic observation skills, and understanding of human behavior around.
Were you born that way, or have you worked at it?

"And could they afford the expensive flood insurance?"
Maybe not - but why would anyone ever buy flood insurance knowing the government will do a bail out if floods ever hit?
To: swheats
The critics definately can't say he doesnt' have a plan. And he gave those looking for it, hope. Well said!

The interconnectedness of our nation and it's economy is such that we cannot simply wipe the region and its economy off the face of the map. Meanwhile, the POTUS is committed to revamping our response system not only to address natural disasters, but terrorist attack.
To: You Dirty Rats
you actually believe that's the only thing federal money will be spent on? just roads, levees, and the public infrastructure?

As a former network newsie, I was embarrassed and disgusted by Dean Reynolds choosing a panel of poor Black people to interview, post speech, and them trying time and time again to get them to blame the President for their losses.
Problem was, they were too smart for him. They blamed nature, Local and State Gmvt long before they blamed the Prez.
Good for them.

Well, duh. He just threw open the Treasury - come and get it. I think the Feds should hold Louisiana's hand whilst handing them $$$ in the other.
That state's corruption is the major reason that city is under water.
