DELTONA, Fla. -- A convenience store worker has admitted urinating into a soda bottle, causing a customer who drank from it to become violently ill, his bosses say.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Publix officials confirmed to Local 6 News that an employee urinated in a Mountain Dew bottle and put it on the store shelves at the Publix-owned Pix convenience store located off Howland in Deland, Fla.
Publix Super Markets spokesman Dwaine Stevens said the accused employee was suspended after the company learned of the incident this week. An internal investigation is being completed.
Lab tests done by Publix on the contaminated Mountain Dew confirmed the soda contained urine, Stevens said. The supermarket giant owns the Pix chain.
"It is an isolated incident done by one of our associates," Stevens said. "Whatever measure is necessary, it will be executed and the employee will be dealt with."
Publix has not filed a criminal complaint but the option has not been ruled out, Stevens said.
The victim, a foreman with a Daytona Beach construction company, became suspicious of the drink after he chugged the beverage last week, his attorney, Daniel Newlin, said
"He vomited three or four times afterward," said Newlin, who did not release his client's name in order to protect the man's privacy.
Newlin said that upon the advice of an infectious-disease doctor, the victim was being tested for diseases such as gonorrhea and hepatitis C.
"We're hopeful that the person who did this wasn't carrying any sexual, or otherwise, virus that could cause him harm," Newlin said. "Unfortunately, the doctors were very concerned."
AFTER? ... the first swig of pee would be sufficient, I'd think
oh, and that's also a good reason to check the band attached to the cap. if band and cap are separated, or no band is present, do not buy.
>>>Publix Super Markets spokesman Dwaine Stevens said the accused employee was suspended...
Suspended?? What's it take for Publix to fire someone? Does someone have to die?
I wonder he didn't notice the smell... it must have been too cold and he was sooo thirsty...
Pix?
This could damage the store's image...
But MORE importantly, check out those prices!
$2.89 for Unleaded! Awrightee then!
yep.
It was Mountain Dew, how could he know?
Do the Dew....
Eww!
This guy puts new meaning to the product "Mountian Dew".
"Mountain Dew" [sound of rifle shot] "it'll tickle yore innards!"
Publix is making sure they aren't being set up.
I am very familiar with the Publix chain. As soon as they confirm all aspects of the story and get a all-clear from their legal dept.
This loser will be gone.
Gone?
Why not charged criminally?
Publix is also the victim.
They're on the line for their employees actions.
Eeewww! Hepatitis and other "goodies". Me, I drink from pop-top cans that I open myself. But, if I was the consumer in this case, he would never pee in any other bottle. Ever.
I think the perpetrator should be made to go work a day with the foreman on a construction job.
If could have just been normal Pepsi. Stuff is sickiningly sweet. Yuk.
