I guess 'stare decisis' ('a thing decided'), has no weight at all when it comes to traditional practices. In the case of The Pledge of Allegiance...res ipsa loquitur.

ABSOLUTELY! Thanks for bringing it up. I wouldn't mind it being trimmed BACK to what it was, originally.Well considering the original was written by a socialist that would fit right in with what this nation is becoming daily. Good riddance. Haven't said it for years and IIRC neither did any Framers say pledges to pieces of cloth.

But if a Court thinks they can strike down God in the Pledge in today's climate, they can think again. The people will revolt against them.
Nonsense. Completely and utterly over-the-top ridiculous.
"The people" don't even attend church regularly. You really think they are going to take up arms to ensure that the government recognizes a Deity mentioned nowhere in the Constitution?

Besides no one is stopping anyone from saying 'Under God' if they choose. The state just can't tell you to do so.

The
and the LIBS since they LOVE international law won't like having this shoved down their gullets
United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
The real background issue is best said by the late Red Skelton
The late Red Skelton spoke the following words on his television program as he related the story of his teacher, Mr. Laswell, who felt his students, had come to think of the Pledge of Allegiance as merely something to recite in class each day.
Now, more than ever, listen to the meaning of these words.
"I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word?"
I -- me, an individual, a committee of one.
Pledge -- dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
Allegiance -- my love and my devotion.
To the flag -- our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given that shouts freedom is everybody's job!
United -- that means that we have all come together.
States -- individual communities that have united into 48 great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country.
And to the republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern.
And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands, one nation under God -- one nation, meaning, "so blessed by God"
Indivisible -- incapable of being divided.
With liberty -- which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice -- the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
For all -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...
UNDER GOD
Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?
God Bless America!

Apparently, Newdow found a couple families with unquestionable standing willing to be the plaintiffs of record.
Hopefully, this time he remembered to attack the Constitutionality of the 1954 law.

Probably right after Feinstein gets done grilling him about Roe, as she is doing as I type.
She says he is more subdued this afternoon than he was this morning and asked him "Did someone caution you over lunch?" LOL!
I should head on over to the live thread...

Yes, he was drawing a distinction between a government based on "the state" and one based on higher, moral principles. Someone said he got the line from an Abe Lincoln speech.

Yes, it's Newdow. This time, he represented two other families, since he himself had no standing in the case he had before the Supreme Court.
