I just spoke to a young man at the Office of the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial. (814) 443-4557.
There have been several threads here at FR regarding the proposed Islam Crescent at the memorial. Like the rest of you, I am appalled that such a symbol would even be considered.
I decided to do something about it. Sunday evening I faxed my objection to them in writing. It was a one page fax, and was a page printed from FR which showed the Crescent. Beside the picture I wrote my name, phone etc, and voiced my objections. The fax number is 814-443-2180.
This morning I called and spoke to the man who answered the phone. He was very professional, I was polite. I gave him my name, and then spelled it to make sure he got it right. I then said Im called to voice my objection to the use of the Islamic Crescent at the Flight 93 Memorial He replied that he would make note of it and make sure that it was passed along. He then asked if there was anything more that I wanted to say. (Note to callers: RESISIT the urge to unload at this point, doing so will negate the effectiveness of your call) I said I was appalled that anyone would even consider that symbol at the memorial. I continued to say that the people responsible should be fired. He said he would pass that along also.
He then asked me for my phone number, which I gave.
Will our calls make a difference? I dont know, but I knew NOT calling isnt going to change things.
Eagle,
First - I completely respect your right to feel this way. So please do not take this as an attack.
The design, while taking the form or a crescetn/arc/semi-cirle - whatever you want to call it, mimicks the shape of the treeline in the field. It will echo and mirror the landscape to "flow" with the natural shape of the field.
I for one will be outraged if I find out that the artist had intended to extend an olive branch to the Islamofaschists through this design. But it does seem that this would be a natural use of complimenting the treeline that Flight 93 plowed into on 9/11. I could be wrong - but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt until we find out more.
I hope everyone will too. Again, I appreciate your patriotism and your view.

Balding Eagle thank you for this post, and the info. that we need to take action. Appalled is an understatement. Our country is being hi-jacked by PC leftists.
You forgot the stars, (minaret) tower and cluster of buildings in the middle this "memorial" (to the murderers maybe?), oriented like the stars in Islam's crescent symbol..
Wow...as another poster noted, we need the names of the people behind this. That's not exactly subtle. Haul all the authorities in and find out what the heck they were thinking...even though we know what they were thinking: GOOD JOB. There ought to be a law...
The geography of the city has. It was originallybuilt on the high ground that made it a crescent shape. The part that's flooded now wasn't built on then [swampy]. thje topography hasn't changed
It certainly looks a lot more like the Islamic Crescent than the one on the South Carolina flag does.
It's quite a bit thinner than the one on the SC flag. I also seriously doubt that Islam was on the minds of the designers about 230 years ago.
I totally agree with you. It's an abomination and so completely disrespectful to the Heroes on that flight.
I read about this on the thread last night. Unbelievable!!
Ping to those who will be interested. [in case you haven't seen it already]
Dating back to 1765, the South Carolina State Flag reminds us of its role in the American Revolution and maintains its place in the annals of the Civil War with a design that was formulated as a National banner when the state seceded from the union on December 20, 1860.
Components of the current state flag were first seen in 1765, on a banner carried by South Carolina protesters of the Stamp Act. The banner that the protesters hoisted displayed three white crescents on a blue background. Ten years later in 1775, Colonel William Moultrie was asked by the South Carolina Revolutionary Council of Safety to design a banner for the use of South Carolina troops. Colonel Moultrie chose a simple and direct design that displayed the crescent (new moon)on a blue field. The new flag was the same blue color of the soldier's uniforms and the silver crescent echoed the symbol that the soldiers wore on the front of their caps.
Almost 100 years later, South Carolina seceded from the Union it had fought to create. A new banner was needed to fly above the newly created nation. Many designs were reviewed but the General Assembly settled on one simple change to Moultrie's Revolutionary War design. A Palmetto tree was added and centered on the blue field. The Palmetto, the South Carolina State Tree, had been attributed as instrumental in Colonel Moultrie's defense of Sullivan's Island against an attack by British warships in June, 1776. Cannonballs fired at the fort from the British ships could not destroy the walls of the fort which were built of Palmetto logs. Instead, the cannonballs simply sank into the soft, tough Palmetto wood.

Thanks for the heads up!

Final Design Announced
The design for the permanent Memorial for Flight 93 was announced on September 7, 2005 amid overwhelming support . .
So the mark of the Jihadists will forever emblazon our landscape. Is it time to cry for America yet...???????????? This design seems to be a fitting memorial for the Muslims who died aboard Flt 93. The hijackers whose ashes are fused into the shale with those of their victims, of all the shapes, in all of geometry, they pick the symbol of Muslim power, THE CRESCENT!!!
"When it comes to a memorial, all mankind sympathizes," he said." The idea of the Crescent of Embrace, Murdoch said, is to be a gesture of healing and bonding.
This is like making a holocaust memorial in the shape of a swastika. Absolutely disgusting. I think is a slap in the face of every solider that is fighting terrorism now. And a shameful way to honor those that have died in this fight.
Recognize it for what it is....
A commemoration for those who bravely died in their fight to expand islam!
Fouad El Bayly, leader of the Islamic Center of Johnstown, said the crescent isn't a holy symbol, but one identified with the lunar Muslim calendar.

Thanks. I am outraged, but given Mr Driscoll's gracious post above am willing to hold fire until I read more.
Ping!
The shape isn't accidental. The official title is "crescent of embrace". The crescent is the symbol of Islam, and is on many state flags of Islamic countries.
Islamic countries do not allow the "Red Cross" to operate, and in those countries it's called the "Red Crescent".
I think the designer is looking for PC kudos from their anti-american friends.
Well, who designed this CF and did he/she have an agenda or is he/she tragically clueless?
I just got done watching "Tightrope" this morning (w/Clint Eastwood)...which was filmed in New Orleans. The first thing I noticed was the Crescent Moon with a star inside it on all the cop cars. I never noticed.
