Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 10:27 p.m. EDT Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault
It was the Bush administration's fault that hundreds of city school buses weren't dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.
Asked on "Fox News Sunday" why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to follow the city's evacuation plan and press the buses into service, Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding.
"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she said. "And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face." Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."
Saying she was unwilling to criticize Louisiana officials, the Louisiana Democrat insisted that Mayor Nagin's evacuation efforts had been a smashing success.
"Because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation . . . of any evacuation I've seen. I'm 50 years old; I've never seen one any better," Landrieu told FNS.
That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."
Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:
"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."
Why is it that whenever survival of the fittest comes into play, the Darwin embracers always scream the loudest?
It's the mayors job to get people to work ? Geeez and all these years I been working, saving , buying a car , working , buying gas ..and it was the mayors job all this time ..What a dope I am huh ?
Hey I think you have the answer to the next evacuation. Just tell the Dems all the people they bus out can vote when they get off the bus. Buses would have rolled out of the swamps and emptied that dome in minutes.
This Senator is personally liable as a Senator from Louisana for failure to get federal appropriations to improve the levies. That is the purpose of a Senator to wheel and deal to get the necessary funds for her state. She is the failure. She blames Bush and it is called "projection", accucing someone else of the thing you know you are guilty of yourself.
"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day"
If that isn't a sign of an incredibly screwed up city, I don't know what is!
"...ALWAYS blaming someone else for their gross criminal neglect and incompetence."
Read all about it:

I didn't see this, but this is embarrassing for me to even read about(and i don't normally have any pity on DumRats).
Stay outta da Busses!
Are they still trying to put that guy in jail for proving what a simple task it was?
So, not only did Bush have to prepare Blanco's own state for a state of emergency and insist on mandatory evacuations...he was suppose to plan and execute the evacuation. I knew Demorats didn't believe in state's rights...I just didn't know they would take it this far.
And tell me why a supposed lack of federal mass transit funding created disgruntled school bus drivers who would refuse to report to work to help out in a crisis.
Finally, the big one - note the Mayor NEVER ASKED a single bus driver to come in and save poor people. The Senator just knows it wasn't worth trying. But the federal govt, well they should have been parachuting commandos into the driver's seats.
Well, don't you know that EVERYTHING is Bush's fault? Unless it's something good that happens. Then he's NOT responsible.
Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."
Now everyone has a job? Come on, Ms. Landrieu. First everyone is poor and doesn`t have a car, and now they all have jobs? I guess everyone walked to work in N.O.....
"And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face."
Administrations before ? Careful Ms . Landrieu, a certain New York senator and ex President might have a problem with that statement.
Please, please tell me that Jabbar is not being charged with any crime. If he is, they are all insane. He saved 80 peoples and one of their damn buses (the only one the NOLA School District has left).
Mary Landrieu could've gotten every one of those people to the polls on election day w/o Bush's help.
The problem w/ NOLA government is that there wasn't enough time to organize graft and bribes and kickbacks to insure that things actually worked. Rest assured, if there would've been money in it, the people would've had busses.
I thought it was very good of Chris to just let her spout. She never made any sense and her blame clearly did not sell, Especially with Vitter admitting that the mayor and Governor had a lot of blame as well.
Someday, that woman's going to tell one too many lies, and then smoke will come out of her ears. Then her head will explode, revealing her to be an android.
As much as I wince when I have to watch George W. Bush's stumbles or Hillary's shrill shout or Jesse Jackson's empty bombast, nothing makes me want to put an aluminum softball bat through my TV more than Mary Landrieu's condescending kindergarten teacher tone.
I don't know, but there is no way he could ever be convicted.
This was the best-run catastrophic flood of New Orleans that I have ever seen, too! And I'm 52!
