This is evil. This architect should never work again.

I love the line "this is not about any religion per se..." Let's try this line when we propose putting up a large cross on the site and see if it works. Since we're all coming together, can't we do it under a symbol that represents the victims?

From
this link:
A 15-member jury made up of family members, community members and design professionals was tasked with making a final recommendation on the design. Five finalists were selected from 1,011 designs. Murdoch's design still must get the approval of the director of the National Park Service and the secretary of the Interior.
The heads of the NPS and Interior approved this?!
And just exactly who were those judges?

To be fair, on another thread, a surviving son of a man killed on flight 93 states that he has no problem with the design, and it does look like some family members of those killed on the flight had a voice in this.
My gut reactionn was one of disbelief that something so emblamatic of Islam should be such a prominent feature in this memorial.
Apon reflection, it has changed to dismay and sadness that someone saw fit to include something so potentially divisive in this memorial when it could have easily been avoided.

the plaza of the world trade center when viewed from above ,resembles the "rising sun" of the flag of japan.this was purposely done by the japanese architect who designed the wtc.these architects know damn well what they were doing with this crescent....in both cases it is an f you to our great country

it has changed to dismay and sadness that someone saw fit to include something so potentially divisive in this memorial when it could have easily been avoided. This is really no different than all those Muslims changing seats, congregating at the front of a plane, conversing deeply, etc. This was done deliberately, just to try us out.

What they need is a small park with a simple monument that has the inscription "Let's Roll." That's a much, much better idea.

It seems to be true that the people responsible were not unaware of the implications.
"But even the second-stage jury that selected the design recommended changing its name to steer clear of religious overtones. Rather than crescent, the jury suggested using circle or arc of embrace instead."
A name change might seem to be trivial, but memorials are by nature fraught with symbolism. Perhaps you are right, and I should just be angry, but it is still saddens me that the heroism of the people on that flight who resisted will now be linked to this controversy that could have been avoided.

All right, Murdoch. Get the red crecent out of the memorial. The jig is up and you've been apprehended.

I printed the picture at the head of this thread and used it as my my page. The fax machine is on at that end. I just wrote my name, address, phone, and that I objected to the proposed design.
Not fancy, but if they are interested in hearing from others they'll get the message. If they want to ignore us (which I think is the case) I didn't invest much time in it.

FYI...
No flame, just another look at the red crescent memorial.
I thought your statement on the other thread was sound and reasonable - after all, you have standing in this.
God Bless.

Write the National Park Service, which must approve the final design here.
Call the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial at (814) 443-4557. Or fax (814) 443-2180.
