Lavish tastes of card-carrying lowlifes

Profiteering ghouls have been using debit cards distributed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina - intended to buy essentials for evacuated families - in luxury-goods stores as far away as Atlanta.

"We've seen three of the cards," said a senior employee of the Louis Vuitton store at the Lenox Square Mall in affluent Buckhead, who asked not to be named. "Two I'm certain have purchased; one actually asked if she could use it in the store. This has been since Saturday."

The distinctive white cards were distributed by the Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency and carry a value of up to $2,000.

What isn't clear is if those trying to purchase non-essential goods with the cards were actually the people the card was originally issued to. There are reports of people showing up at the astrodome buying $2000 cards for $1500. They may be the ones trying to buy the luxury goods.

Were it me, I'd withdraw the cash from the card and then sell the card for $1500.

Heard a short radio clip on ABC radio Friday. Guy bitching "Only $2000? I need $10,000. I've got 8 kids"

When the foolish have blown their two grand on nonsense items and still have no clothes or necessary items for their children, they will simply beg the feds again and get more free stuff.

The fraud associated with this is probably beyond belief.

How does anyone know the recipients are really evacuees? Are you gonna write down your previous New Orleans address that nobody could possibly verify?

Does every person over age eighteen get his/her own two grand?

They weren't tattooed with the letter "E" before getting on buses leaving New Orleans. I could say I had to leave New Orleans last week, too.

Where's my two grand?

I'm leaving for Houston today to pick up my $2,000.

We'll probably find out later one third of adults in America eventually received $2,000 as hurricane victims.

Too bad New Orleans wasn't about fifty feet farther below sea level.

These cards are nothing but plastic food stamps. If I lived down there I could make a fortune. Just like party store owners here in Detroit who have been known to purchase food stamps for 50 - 75% of their dollar value so the seller can use the cash to buy alcohol or drugs.......

Easy money!

With 8 kids, no house, no car, no job...only the clothes on their backs.... he's got a point, $2,000 won't last long. Good incentive for him to spend it wisely.

Hope he finds a charitable organization that will help him with some material essentials and a job so that will help him get on his financial feet again soon.

Get ready folks for the RATS to offer $2000+ gifts to all distressed people.

I know it's not tax season, but if you look at the income tax structure, you will see that they get far more than that in the form of zero tax on the income, PLUS the Earned (mmisnomer) Income Credit.

This is exactly what the vogue refugee needs and deserves...right?

FEMA could simply give these out at the gates of the Astrodome....

FEMA scrapped the program after the story came out.

So I heard...they are now direct depositing the funds into people's bank accounts. The issue here is not the funds but the people, what would stop them from using those funds in getting the same luxury items instead of what they need? Do you think that the Coach stores will say NO to cash or bank ATM/Visa cards? They'll misuse the funds regardless on how they are being paid.

Once I found out that the DC "refugees" teamed up with moveon.org, to march on the White House, ALL donations were discontinued from this household.

I had to search what Louis Vuitton was. Too rich for my blood...

Amen! To tell the truth, I was shocked when I read a couple of these evacs were using their cards at a Louis Vuitton store.

Not shocked that they were doing it, but that they could find anything in the LV store they could afford with that $2K. What did they buy? A little LV key chain?

Heck...I could have furnished and decorated an apartment, as well as clothed the whole family from a thrift store, with money left over. I hope the left doesn't look down on thrift stores....the ultimate recycler.

FEMA has switched to direct deposit, saying it requires less manpower.

One other difference between these cards and a direct deposit is the merchant, or anyone else for that matter, will have no idea of the source of the funds. So the public will not know how the money might be abused. Ergo, no bad publicity.

Does any one really think the federal government would give white, middle class citizens caught in a disaster a $2,000 credit line out of its goodness of heart?

Do you think they are giving anybody anything out of the goodness of their heart.

And undoubtedly some of them would have gone to white middle class citizens. Or are you under the impression that there was some sort of race test or that only black citizens were evacuated?

I am frankly tired of watching freepers who should know better swallow the race baiting kool-aid being served up by the MSM in one gulp.

You know better then that.

You are better then that.
