Illusionist Horn Walks Into Vegas Theater

LAS VEGAS - Illusionist Roy Horn made a slow, unassisted stroll into a Las Vegas theater, taking another step in his recovery from a near-fatal tiger mauling 23 months ago.

Horn "methodically" walked about 100 yards into the Thursday evening performance of "Avenue Q" at the Wynn Las Vegas resort, said Bernie Yuman, longtime manager of the "Siegfried & Roy" show.

Horn, 60, has been walking without the aid of a rolling walker after months of six- to eight-hour days in physical rehabilitation, Yuman said. His injuries included a damaged neck artery and a crushed windpipe.

Horn has made other public appearances in recent months. He was accompanied Thursday by his partner, Siegfried Fischbacher, and casino mogul Steve Wynn.

Horn was partially paralyzed when a 380-pound white tiger attacked him and dragged him by the neck during a live performance of the "Siegfried & Roy" show at The Mirage resort in Las Vegas.

Yuman said Friday that Horn and some friends were preparing to mark Horn's 61st birthday on Oct. 3 — the second anniversary of the attack. He declined to provide details.

"We're going to continue to celebrate his birthday and his life," Yuman said, emphasizing the inspirational elements of Horn overcoming adversity.

"We look forward to Oct. 3 as we always have, but now it has new meaning," he said.

I have loved magic acts since I was a kid. Siegfried & Roy put on a hell of a show. I hope the guy continues to improve even though it sounds like he will never perform again.

I was lucky enough to see their show. And was afraid we would never hear from him again. I am so glad to read this. Vegas will never be the same. Thanks for posting this.

Good to hear! I never had the opportunity to see one of their shows but while in Vegas we did get to see the tigers. They were gorgeous!

I watch that special that was done on Siegfried and Roy. It was really good and I'm inclined to think that tiger saw his master in trouble.

"Siegfried and Roy got into this trouble due to the same reason that got the bear guy, they thought of wild animals as nothing more then human, but they're still wild animals. BTW, I do hope he makes a full, or at least a good recovery."

I have to agree with you. There was a case last week of a 16 year old girl at a wild animal park "petting zoo" (in Kansas of all places) who screamed when a supposedly tame tiger licked her foot. The tiger killed her and of course had to be put down.

I'm sure a lot of professionals know their stuff and the odds of something going wrong go down as a result but in the end you are still screwing around with several hundred pounds of teeth, claws and muscle.

He has moved mountains when you look back at his situation 18 months ago.

My wife goes on and on...having seen his show...about the entire act (I never went...I hate magic acts). If Roy Horn walked into our living room...that dang woman would fall over herself to kiss his feet. I never have understood all these folks who have bonded with the guy....but I do understand the progress he has had to make...he is a winner in more ways than one.

Truthfully, I never paid much attenion to these two. Not really my thing either but I do love to look at beautiful animals.....behind glass where I'm safe! LOL

It wasn't until Horn got hurt that I was very interested. Mostly how he still felt about the tiger. Probably how I would feel.

If an illusionist walks into a theatre, is he really there?

No, seriously, it is good that he is on a road to recovery. I just hope "Cats!" wasn't playing at the theatre.

"...that dang woman would fall over herself to kiss his feet. "

She must have missed the "he's gay" memo. Might want to break it to her.

Don't tell me.... Big Barry Manilow fan, right?

" Oct. 3 — the second anniversary of the attack"

Wow. I would have guessed 1 year.
Glad to hear he's improving.
