Think local officials are less to blame for deaths in New Orleans than federal officials? In the most jaw-dropping story of the week, UPI has the police chief of Gretna, Louisiana, admitting that he closed off one of the major arteries out of New Orleans on Monday, before the storm hit:
"We shut down the bridge," Arthur Lawson, chief of the City of Gretna Police Department, confirmed to United Press International, adding that his jurisdiction had been "a closed and secure location" since before the storm hit.
"All our people had evacuated and we locked the city down," he said. The bridge in question -- the Crescent City Connection -- is the major artery heading west out of New Orleans across the Mississippi River.
He added that the small town, which he called "a bedroom community" for the city of New Orleans, would have been overwhelmed by the influx. "There was no food, water or shelter" in Gretna City, Lawson said. "We did not have the wherewithal to deal with these people. If we had opened the bridge, our city would have looked like New Orleans does now: looted, burned and pillaged."
Looks like I'm the only black republican left here. Oh well, I've always been a token growing up.
The MSM has achieved their mission directives.
HUN! You're back!!!!
Yes I'm back early from my self imposed zot :o)
Damn right. Now let's stand tall against these bigoted asses. We have a trail to blaze.
As long the discussion is peaceful and not insulting.
Hence why I said "stand tall" and not "let's kick some ass".
Well yes I'll just say what I have to say but I refuse to be dragged into someone's anger. There are some people who need to examine themselves and rid themselves of that anger. As for trailblazing, I don't see anything that I'm doing as trailblazing just saying my peace. People can take my comments which ever way they please.
This isn't exactly the way out of N.O. One would have to go the length of the West Bank Expressway and then cross the Huey P Long Bridge, and travel several miles to get where they would have been if they went the opposite direction in the first place. That is, assuming they were evacuating
But you are trailblazers and I'm proud of each of you for standing up to the "racist bullies" and speaking you mind. My hat's off to you both.....The only thing I can contribute is my meager support....
Your support is appreciated :-)
Being short on the mark on accuracy never stopped the Democrats or their accomplices in the media.
I hope they "BRING IT ON!", because I want to see them sweat.
Michael, Your black Conservative ping list has been of immense value to me ever since I've been on it and I'm sure others as well. It has been an important resource for much of my own writing. I believe it is the most important ping list on FR. The front lines of the war between liberalism and libertarianism is waged across the gulf artificially created by those on the left between black (and others of color) and white. Understanding this is key to understanding Conservatism, especially the effects of libertarian philsophy on the poorest of the poor.
Minds are being changed, especially young minds, every day and the country is moving in a positive direction because of the actions of people like you. I hope you know how vitally important you are.
It is important to attempt not to be offended by ignorant posters and others here on FR. There is not even a need to acknowlege them. Unfortunately, there are those without true understanding of libertarian/conservative prinicples on this site, but by becoming offended they gain legitimacy as they now have the pleasure of knowing they have affected you, which probably only encourages them. I wouldn't even try to argue with them because their comments already insult themselves more than we ever could.
So please stay and keep up the good fight. The future of, not just black America, but all Americans, depends on those willing to educate and change minds and counter the default ideology of liberalism forced upon many of us by our government, media, and culture.
The chief has alot of explaining to do, because here's why: The bridge in question was an evacuation route. I don't care if 12 people were trying to cross, or 120,000 people were trying to cross, he had no authority to close that evac route.
You wait for "marching orders" from the mayor?
Did it ever enter into your mind that FEMA was hamstrung by the mayor and the Governor? The Democrats want to make FEMA the scapegoat to hide the incompetency of both the mayor and the Governor.
