This past Christmas season Target stores forbade the Salvation Army from seeking contributions. Now the Salvation Army is front and center helping the victims of Katrina...where is Target. I did not see any mention of this in the media outlets.
Guess it's Wal Mart and K Mart this year.

Target has partnered with the American Red Cross for over a decade on disaster relief, most recently in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As part of the relief effort, Target has announced a $1.5 million donation to the Red Cross, with $500,000 going for immediate relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, and an additional $1 million for ongoing disaster relief and preparedness.
In addition to cash contributions, Target is offering much-needed real estate in Louisiana to the Red Cross to establish a central command center supporting the most heavily impacted areas of the storm.

Target didn't allow the Bell Ringers because Target is non-union. If they allowed the SA they would have to permit union organizers to lobby their employees outside the store 24/7.

The Red Cross is now putting out their own kettles in stores, unstaffed for now. You hit it on the head, it's a territory issue.

Gee, now I am glad that I go to Target all the time. Of course, I am not one to boycott because someone told me to.
Wal-mart is non-union and they still let the bell ringers solicit...it's going to bite them in the someday.
Walmart is non-union too and they allow bell ringers and the kettles. The unstated reason Target won't allow the kettles is because the Salvation Army is a Christian organization and will not give same-sex partner benefits.
Target also is allowing all their employees from the flood areas to go to other target stores for employment, whether the store needed the additional employees or not. Target has also been identified as the US Company that does the most for local communities.
I knew more stories would come in. I don't like to see lazy uninformed bashing of decent corporate citizens. This post is an awful lot like the NEA WalMart boycott crap.
OK, so why did they kick out the Salvation Army bell ringers?
The problem is that Target has a no soliciting rule on their premises. They made an exception for the Salvation Army, but other organizations threatened to sue them if they continued selective enforcement of the policy. Target either had to allow groups like the "Gay and Lesbian Save the Whales and Trees to Prevent Gun Violence" society or enforce the ban uniformly.
I would have been tempted to fight it out in court, but then I'm not the CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation with a lot of stockholders to answer to.
