The story I read says he destroyed the docs. I think he said he accidentally did that too.My guess is they were the Able Danger docs.

The recommended sentence was only $10,000 and one year probation so the actual sentence in context is harsher.

Who's recommendation was THAT?

The judge was a federal magistrate. Kind of a half a$$ judge. Magistrates are appointed for eight years by district judges. Kind of like the buddy system. A hand shake and a wink!

They should have asked him of course. But when it comes to anyone from the Clinton regime, the powers that should be seem to look the other way!

If some serious research were to be done, you'd probably find the magistrate was assigned the case from a Clinton or Carter appointee! More judicial independence!

"He'll be back just in time to help the beast fill her cabinet. What about loss of his security clearance?!" - gorebegone

gorebegone, you don't know how right you may be; from http://usatoday.printthis.clickability.com/pt/cpt?action=cpt&title=USATODAY.com+-+Berger+to+pay+%2450%2C000+for+taking+classified+material&expire=&urlID=15468961&fb=Y&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatoday.com%2Fnews%2Fwashington%2F2005-09-08-berger-sentenced_x.htm&partnerID=1660
we find this quote about the duration of his loss of security clearance, "...Under the deal, Berger avoids prison time but he must surrender access to classified government materials for three years. ...". Just in time for the next Administration. God please make it NOT be Clinton!

Looks like the left paid off someone on the right.

You honestly think a "payoff" is necessary?

The sentence was step considering the charges were a joke. (The charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.)

What I don’t understand was why didn’t we hit him with real charges?

Disgusting! Sandy Berger should be in jail. This is really a disgrace.

In this case it really IS "Bush's Fault". If this DoJ will not prosecute an obvious attempt by Berger to falsify government documents to cover up Clinton Admin misdeeds, than there is no rule of law in America.

After Able Danger was revealed I didn't think there was any chance Bush and Gonzales would keep the one-sided "deal" with Berger. Now, while the media focus is dominated by Katrina, Berger gets off with a wrist slap for treason. How could the President countenance this?

WHAT! No community service?

I'd like to say I'm suprised...I'd like to really....but.

Has it ever been determined just what he took? What the files said?

Speaking of...can someone post that pic of Cheney's pants and a pic of Burger's pants to show the difference between the two 'parties'? ROTFLMBO. I've just got to laugh. Only other option is to cry. If this is sexist, forgive me. LOL!
