FNC's Major Garrett: Red Cross Blocked by Order of the Louisiana State Government

The Red Cross Blocked

The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett was just on my show extending the story he had just reported on Brit Hume's show: The Red Cross is confirming to Garrett that it had prepositioned water, food, blankets and hygiene products for delivery to the Superdome and the Convention Center in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, but were blocked from delivering those supplies by orders of the Louisiana state government, which did not want to attract people to the Superdome and/or Convention Center. Garrett has no paper trail yet, but will follow up on his verbal confirmation from sources at the highest levels of the Red Cross.

The transcript of the interview will be available at Radioblogger later this afternoon.

And here is a very interesting article from Septmber of 2004:

Debate continues over Superdome as potential hurricane shelter

Seems that the debate over using the Superdome goes back almost a year, and that no one in New Orleans thought it would be a great place in a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.

Key graphs:

"If we were to lose power, if we were to lose plumbing facilities, if a storm were to hit and create flooding in the area; the Superdome would not be a desirable place to be," he said.

The American Red Cross admits it would not stay in town for a severe hurricane. Workers would offer supplies and training to the Dome but would then leave to ensure aid for the hurricane's aftermath.

Kay Wilkins, spokesperson for the American Red Cross, said, "While we're saying we;re going to move our volunteers and staff out of the risk area into areas where its safer for them to be it doesn't mean we're not going to be here ahead of time for others."

Mayor Nagin said the city has more than 80,000 people without transportation access, and when the next hurricane evacuation there will be thousands of people who will not, or cannot, leave, highlighting the city's urgency of finding the most suitable place for shelter.

I got through on Drudge's link after a few tries. It is just getting too many hits. That is good!

I just saw the video of Major's report. Explosive does not justify. I want so many people "frog marched" in front of the camera and apologing to Mike Brown and President Bush.

I know there is a rat's behind chance of that but ....

I will email to everyone tomorrow. I also think it is a good idea to call in local news tip lines and going around the MSM.

I predict that the Dems will begin to slowly back away from calling for an investigation. The White House won't touch this thing because of their potential conflict of interest. The House could do something but Norm Coleman is on the Senate Cmte that has already announced hearings. He could be the point man on this one.

The Rats will rhue the day they started pig piling on the POTUS.

"The whole nation is involved now"

Sure, it's a big national drama show.

Only the locals get to vote the weakest link out. The rest of the nation will have to wait til next week's episode to see what the locals choose to do with their politicians.

But I saw the look in Bush's eye this morning when he said he definitely wanted an investigation, and especially how the feds and state and local governments interact.

They mis-underestimated him again.
Tuffski sh*tski, Dems.

Frist already announced a joint Senate-House bi-partisan investigation of all levels of government response to Katrina -- local, state, and federal. The 'Rats are now going to be leaving full loads in their pants as each piece of the total derliction of duty by the 'Rat Governor and the 'Rat Mayor emerges more fully. I don't think the MSM can ignore or spin this (I hope) -- they've been screaming for a week about how badly people were treated, assuming it was all Bush's fault, and now they will have to report that the Red Cross was ready to bring in plenty of supplies and Blanco blocked it, and that hundreds of public buses were sitting uselessly in the floods when the Mayor could have used them to get tens of thousands out of the city before the storm.

I can't get my browser to open the following headline linked at drudge:

ABC NEWS: GOVERNOR'S OFFICE POINTS FINGER AT MAYOR OVER 'EVACUATION' DEBACLE...

drudgereport

I'm curious to see what that is all about.

The locals are being relocated throughout the country. A big portion of the Dems core constituency has vanished.

THis is becoming ironic isnt it?

I see where Hillary only wants this investigated on the Fed side. Doesnt want any dem blamed, it is obvious.

Both Blanco and Nagin are really starting to show where the problems really lie. The communication problem between them is SO evident. Blame GWB all they want. The dems are really shedding light on their foolishness...

I was appalled by Blanco tonight when she said on Fox "the governor, that would be me, can overide the mayor"

That would be her? She has to convince herself?

Busses, Busses, Busses, We got used busses for sale! Slightly water logged but a little draining and wiping and they are just like new! We are selling them cheap! How do we keep that price so low? Volume, Volume, Volume!!!! So come on down today to downtown New Orleans, just 2 blocks from the Superdome or call 1-800-De Mayor, that's 1-800-De Mayor and we will be seeing you soon!
