Public Skeptical New Orleans Will Recover Criticism, but little outrage, for Bush's and federal agencies' response to hurricane

by David W. Moore

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

...

Despite widespread criticism of the response by Bush and, separately, the federal government, to the problems caused by the hurricane, the public seems on balance only mildly critical. Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job, but 35% rate his response as either "great" (10%) or "good" (25%).

...

When asked to identify who was most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane, 38% of Americans said no one was really to blame, while 13% cited Bush, 18% the federal agencies, and 25% state and local officials.

...

Few Americans feel that any top official in the agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be dismissed from office -- just 29% say someone should be fired, while 63% disagree.

Liberal attitudes get SPANKED again! And to think even poor Cindy couldn't get any traction with Real American opinion.

It'll be interesting to see what they Dims try next.

"Gallup: little outrage, for Bush's ... response to hurricane (only 13% blame him).

Why should they?"

Why should they? Because they're Dims and thats what they do.

Theres no logical reason to try to apply logic to the Dim thought process. It defies logic, and some may say its even anti-logic.

This is actually heartening. Considering how many people irrationally HATE President Bush, it's amazing that the numbers are so low.

A coherent case simply cannot be made here to pin this on Bush. Of course, there is going to be a hardcore Bush-hating group that thinks that he personally remote-controlled the airplanes on 9/11, and that he is the source of all ills in the world. But they are to be disregarded at the onset.

There just aren't very many angles to manipulate the information surrounding the Katrina disaster. So much of it was all out in the open. You can create any back-story you want to push an agenda for something that goes on behind closed doors. Like with the Iraq war - there was unquestionably enough meat (by the nature of war) for the MSM and others to put a neat little anti-Bush outrage story out. Little of it is backed up by fact, but instead makes use of ambiguity to push an agenda.

Now Katrina. Try as they may, there is too little ambiguity available to put a neat little tale together to Bush-bash with. I'm in Canada, surrounded by virulent anti-Bush folks (coworkers, friends, family), people who are on the 'Cindy' side of Iraq. But not ONE of them I have talked to blames Katrina, or the (generally) poor handling of NO afterwords, on Bush.

It is just too difficult to bend perceptions that far from reality here.

Now that Hillary! has joined the parade, you can be certain the ship has sailed. She has never been on time for one of these things in her life.

The ratings for Bush are highly related to party affiliation. is the heading of one section ... yet when you get into the section it mentions that for Democrats it's the "mirror opposite". Very confusing, intentionally so IMO, trying to obfuscate the facts.

I'g venture a guess that around 13% of our population is hardcore left. This same 13% opposes W's breathing.

42% say he's done a bad or terrible job and this is a good thing? Granted, nothing could have been done to fully prevent this tragedy, but there's so much that can be done now. We have fire fighters over there now, our nation's heroes, who are reduced to handing out FEMA flyers. Meanwhile, local munipalities are paying for their absence. Isn't that why we have FEMA in the first place? Why was Witt sent in? When Bush came to office in 2001, I thought we had seen the last of klinton's appointments and now it looks as if Bush's FEMA is being bailed out by him? I can't give credit where it's not due.

I'd say federal officials independent of President Bush are most at blame (they should have been there right away as Bush ordered them), but New Orleans city council is a close second. The mayor should be impeached.

I don't think anyone in even the broad political mainstream (including liberal Democrats) was questioning Giuliani after 9/11. Only the far-left extremists were - and they rarely vote.

Damn. The poll (Gallop) the pols in Washington think is an oracle couldn't even get a majority on Bush's back. Neither could the ABC poll. And they are still blaming local/state the most.

And, hey, I still don't think highly of either of these units but that is why the results give me a huge smile. I know they were trying to sink Bush, and they couldn't.

Guess Hillary will just have to shriek louder on her sycophantic stations. Bush is a racist Monster! He ordered the levies breached so that Democrats could die! Yeah, just doesn't seem to be sticking. Maybe they could get Sean Penn out there again on his sinking boat with West beside him with a bullhorn to shout the message. Maybe then it'll work.

The rat's (liberal/left/RINO) own measurement methodology is showing that they are failing in their attempts to blame the admin and federal agencies for the tragedy.

Look for them to reinforce failure over the next week.

Sounds like an 'intervention' episode with your daughter-in-laws' brother.

Nothing like a swift kick in the ass to bring some of these emotion-based libs out of their wandering wilderness.

Good job!

People know that Bush, Clinton, or any US president will do whatever they can to protect this country (pre-911) or help rescue and rebuild after a major disaster (hurricanes). I don't care what your politics are, our presidents will do what is needed. There may be failures in our disaster responses which need to be fixed. Directives and plans may not be carried out properly by subordinates. This does not make it Bush's fault or Clinton's fault. It means we need to reflect and make improvements going forward.

The media must be pretty upset when they see how impotent they are. After expending tons of energy trying to blame president Bush for this disaster and turn it into a racial issue they came out empty handed.Maybe next time they should hide the looters from the public and keep the rapes and murders out of the news.It would also help if the public didn't see how fast the poor victims turned a place of shelter into a wasteland filled with rape and murder. And last but not least they should never allow the public to witness the brave rescuers being shot at or attacked by the poor victims. If they fail to hide these things from the public they will never sell their big lie.
