I watched Killery last night. If you listen closely she is demanding an investigation into FEMA and the Federal response. She never made any mention of an investigation of the response, just the Federal response.

A snip!

The poll highlights racial divisions over the government's response to the hurricane. Some 66 percent of African Americans said the government's response would have been faster had most of the victims been white. But 77 percent of whites said the government's response would have been no different.

The media in America, consistently and without fail, never takes into account intelligent Americans. We can read, listen to the radio and watch the news on TV. And we can make up our own minds. Sometimes I think it's because the media is comprised of such stupid people that they really cannot recognize intelligence, or even know what it is. Also, many intelligent Americans have common sense, another characteristic the media is sadly lacking.

I think you are correct on both points--they ARE in 100% political partisan mode AND they are extremely stupid. The two go hand in hand when one is speaking of liberals!! LOL!

Oprah lives in a fairy tale world with millions licking her boots, she is a self absorbed ninny. Who places their photo on every cover of a magazine; she sleeps with a married man, I believes it's been over 15 yrs and he will not marry her; her snub of Dubya was the final straw for me.SHE IS NOT ALL THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In regard to your comment about Bush not taking charge earlier. . . .

One thing we need to consider is that I am sure it took Bush a while to realize how INCOMPETENT as well as UNCOOPERATIVE Blank-O was.
I mean who would think a governor would order the Red Cross away from the Superdome? Who would think that a governor would resist the federalizing of her national guard units? Who would think that a mayor would turn his buses into submarines? Who would think that a governor and mayor would play such petty politics when the lives of their citizens were at stake?
Drudge also mentions today that Bush was considering invoking the Insurrection Act but was talked out of it by his lawyers.
I'm certain that our president was just as dazed and flummoxed by the LA Dims/politicos as most of the rest of the country, and it took him a few extra hours to find ways to circumvent their idiocy and obstinacy.
Bush is an amazingly competent and compassionate president. For the life of me, I don't see how he can be so gracious in the face of all the vile and vitriolic venom thrown his way. He is a way better man than I, and God bless him.

I completely agree. But I think the Democratic leadership will gripe no matter what. They insult their electorate by saying if somebody didn't understand how to vote in Florida they must have been trying to vote for Gore, so they can find a way to gripe about this.

The only thing I could see doing in the future would be a sort of profiling of governors and mayors of large cities to deteremine which ones are likely to not know what they are doing and/or not be cooperative in case of a huge catastrophe. Then the federal government has to be ready to move when something happens and not even worry about them. I don't see that plan as a good one, the real solution is to have good governors who do their job, but if incompetenets like Blanco are going to be elected what's a president to do?

Wow, that was a really well thought out response filled with FACTS and REASON. Thanks for addressing my issues, I think I understand now. Clearly this administration is absolved of EVERYTHING. I never knew how convincing arguments could be when they contain words ENTIRELY in CAPS. Thanks for the LESSON.

"a sort of profiling of governors and mayors"

Thanks for your reply libsl. You really cracked me up. We can't profile IslamoFascists, but we may have to resort to profiling idiot governors and mayors.

Here's my profile solution. Maybe President Bush should just take the national guard out of all those Blue states on grounds of near homicidal incompetence and replace them with Greenpeace Greenies.

Then Bush would't have to ask to federalize the guard. He could just send them in when the Dims are on their knees and begging for rescue by the U.S. Cavalry.

Oh yeah, and before he sends them in, govs like BlankO would have to prove what they did with the record federal funds given them by the Bush administration for levee maintenance and construction.

I think you have your facts wrong.

Check out this version...it's even worse for the Governor and Nagin:

The Battle over New Orleans
http://www.rightnation.us ^ | 9/7/05 | Bill Weiler

THE BATTLE OVER NEW ORLEANS

On Friday night before the storm hit Max Mayfield of the National Hurricane Center took the unprecedented action of calling Mayor Nagin and Governnor Blanco personally to plead with them to begin MANDATORY evacuation of NO and they said they'd take it under consideration. This was after the NOAA buoy 240 miles south had recorded 68' waves before it was destroyed.

President Bush spent Friday afternoon and evening in meetings with his advisors and administrators drafting all of the paperwork required for a state to request federal assistance (and not be in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act or having to enact the Insurgency Act). Just before midnight Friday evening the President called Governor Blanco and pleaded with her to sign the request papers so the federal government and the military could legally begin mobilization and call up. He was told that they didn't think it necessary for the federal government to be involved yet.

After the President's final call to the governor she held meetings with her staff to discuss the political ramifications of bringing federal forces. It was decided that if they allowed federal assistance it would make it look as if they had failed so it was agreed upon that the feds would not be invited in.

Saturday before the storm hit the President again called Blanco and Nagin requesting they please sign the papers requesting federal assistance, that they declare the state an emergency area, and begin mandatory evacuation. After a personal plea from the President Nagin agreed to order an evacuation, but it would not be a full mandatory evacuation, and the governor still refused to sign the papers requesting and authorizing federal action.

In frustration the President declared the area a national disaster area before the state of Louisiana did so he could legally begin some advanced preparations. Rumor has it that the President's legal advisers were looking into the ramifications of using the insurgency act to bypass the Constitutional requirement that a state request federal aid before the federal government can move into state with troops - but that had not been done since 1906 and the Constitutionality of it was called into question to use before the disaster.

Throw in that over half the federal aid of the past decade to NO for levee construction, maintenance, and repair was diverted to fund a marina and support the gambling ships. Toss in the investigation that will look into why the emergency preparedness plan submitted to the federal government for funding and published on the city's website was never implemented and in fact may have been bogus for the purpose of gaining additional federal funding as we now learn that the organizations identified in the plan were never contacted or coordinating into any planning - though the document implies that they were.

The suffering people of NO need to be asking some hard questions as do we all, but they better start with why Blanco refused to even sign the multi-state mutual aid pack activation documents until Wednesday which further delayed the legal deployment of National Guard from adjoining states. Or maybe ask why Nagin keeps harping that the President should have commandeered 500 Greyhound busses to help him when according to his own emergency plan and documents he claimed to have over 500 busses at his disposal to use between the local school busses and the city transportation busses - but he never raised a finger to prepare them or activate them. This is a sad time for all of us to see that a major city has all but been destroyed and thousands of people have died with hundreds of thousands more suffering, but it's certainly not a time for people to be pointing fingers and trying to find a bigger dog to blame for local corruption and incompetence. Pray to God for the survivors that they can start their lives anew as fast as possible and we learn from all the mistakes to avoid them in the future.
