Public Skeptical New Orleans Will Recover Criticism, but little outrage, for Bush's and federal agencies' response to hurricane
by David W. Moore
GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
...
Despite widespread criticism of the response by Bush and, separately, the federal government, to the problems caused by the hurricane, the public seems on balance only mildly critical. Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job, but 35% rate his response as either "great" (10%) or "good" (25%).
...
When asked to identify who was most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane, 38% of Americans said no one was really to blame, while 13% cited Bush, 18% the federal agencies, and 25% state and local officials.
...
Few Americans feel that any top official in the agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be dismissed from office -- just 29% say someone should be fired, while 63% disagree.

Don't forget Peace Mother Sheehan
I agree with your post -- the RATS and the MSM overplayed their hand.
Additionally, it was stupid and counter-productive for the left to play the race card. It backfired.
The American people are reasonable and fair; and they do not believe that their government would be indifferent to suffering because the victims were poor or black.
They also know that this President has appointed more persons of color to positions of immense influence than any Administration in history.
You got that right. I don't trust them, they ARE a part of the "MSM", they just happen to be a bit conservative COMPARED to CNNetal. FOX is just a smidge above tabloid journalism, and that can quickly decline into left-wing type mud slinging.
Blanco hired Witt to advise HER and I believe he has nothing to do with FEMA or President Bush's relief efforts.
Saving for future reading.
More proof of how the MSM has lost its clout with the American people when it comes to their lies and electronic coup attempts against our President.
Wait until the school bus data and pictures get on all of the MSM tv outlets and other data.
Free Republic, the conservative blogs, and conservative talk radio are now correcting the lies of the MSM in record time with the truth.
Okay, I just got back from getting a hair cut and the grocery store.
And I SWEAR I never brought it up....I swear!
But people are FURIOUS with the press. Just furious; laughing at them being so melodramatic; they were acting out things they had seen on TV -- things reporters asked --mocking them -- it was really funny!
Finally, I asked a bunch of them who they blamed -- and to a person, they said the governor and mayor.
So I asked about Bush -- and they all said -- he did what he's suppose to do, send in what the governor wants.
I mean, this is NC -- they know when FEMA is suppose to show up!
I felt like I had landed on a sea of sanity. They were positively SNEERING about the press.
I won't even get into what they said about the "victims" and Jesse Jackson, et al..
And they don't even POST HERE! :-)
"God help this country if these disgusting traitors ever get into power again!!!"
PREVENTION PLAN: All you conservatives vote en masse and mobilize more to the poles. You Dems that are getting sick of your pathetic lame party....come on over and help us grow a New More Conservative GOP...one with guts, wisdom, compassion, discipline, love for God and country and a can-do attitude for sharing the wealth with all. Flush these 'Rats out of power and that includes our own RINO's too. More conservative Christians and Jews in power will be the best solution for political leadership in this nation.
It would be interesting to know what these same RAT voters would say about GWB's performance after being apprised of these facts which they likely didn't know...
After yesterday's performance by Nancy Pelosi, I want to see this ALL shoved down her throat!
That's about the total black population isn't it?
Interesting.
Most people probably blame the weather, but then you know!
It was Bush's and FEMA's fault for expecting the governor and mayor to be competent. :)
I know. I guess what I want is a conservative alternative to Fox. I get so fed up with them. But the conservative alternative would have to have the babes, right?
I DO wish Fox would come out with a nightly network news program with Brit Hume as the anchor, basically just go nationwide network with the existing show. The nets are reeling so badly right now that it would be a dagger through their hearts. I don't understand why Murdoch doesn't pull the trigger.
Slate Editor at Large Jack Shafer has Sept. 4 article linked on Drudge Report: News You Can Lose. It summarizes present news coverage shortcomings.
Jim - FR has evolved over the years. Are there any dreams or planning to offer a FR cable news alternative to cable/MSM entertainment/news?
As more facts come out more and more people are going to shift the blame to where it rightly belongs, those corrupt and inefficient state and local officials in Louisiana. We might even see someone doing the perp walk before this is all over.
How refreshing for a change!
I wish Free Republic was a news channel on TV. Every time I try to watch the MSM in a disaster, I get so PO'd. I still think the MSM should have to wear shock collars while reporting, and the viewers should all get the activation devices.
"...and of course, the fault is all Bush'ssssaaaaHH!!!!" (BZZZZ)
"...and how do you feel about your house being under water and your family dyinggggggaaaahhhhHHHH!!!" (BZZZZ)
I believe you. I live in WA state, so called "Blue" state, and the Gov and Mayor are getting hit here. Americans aren't stupid.
The press made absolute FOOLS of themselves this past week. And I include Shep and Geraldo in that. Most Americans have to fend for themselves, most are not on welfare, and most when they see fellow Americans in trouble make sure they get help. They don't sit around looking to fire people, impeach the President, or foam at the mouth at press conferences.
Most Americans were sending money, contacting friends and families affected, even taking trucks and going down to help. Most are donating supplies on limited budgets and taking them into their own homes.
They aren't impressed by grandstanding finger pointing politicians. They aren't impressed by elites worrying about their "image". They aren't impressed by Congress calling for Commissions. they aren't impressed by race baiters like Jesse or overly coddled celeb rappers like West. They could see the images of MISS and Alabama operating just fine, and the citizens of NO embarrasing us to the world and they were furious with those people. But they didn't sit around casting blame, we're helping the people of NO anyway!
They saw the Gov crying, Mary threatening violence and the Mayor cursing.
I wager the hatred of these people just skyrocketed even further after all this. I want a poll of the press done by Gallop. I wager they get hit hard.
I don't understand what Gallup expected from this question. Are they talking about blaming Bush for the storm itself (through the much talked about global warming) or are they talking about blaming Bush for not wresting control out of the hands of a paralyzed and incompetent governor, or what? The question is unqualified and so I don't see how the results reflect anything. Bush haters will blame him for everything no matter what. On the other hand even Bush lovers might say he should have taken charge from the very beginning (in spite of laws and procedures) simply because the state and local government were not competent to deal with the situation.
