CNN Headline news reporter just stated that the military will not force folks from their homes. "Refusing to force Americans from their homes", said the noticeably British reporter. Further, they will not let residents deteriorate in their own homes. The military will continue to get water and food to those remaining in New Orleans, effectively undermining Nagin's mandatory evacuation order.
Certainly, it is called the intracoastal canal. it stretches from Brownsville to Florida and up the east coast with access to all major waterways.
He's so good at giving orders after the fact. It might have been helpful if he had read the evacuation plan beforehand.
This guy is so inept, I wouldn't be surprised to see him order the citizens to return to their homes -- just before the next hurricane arrives.
It would not be politically "fair" to remove some and not all. We are NOT talking about a sane mind here, somebody is pulling his strings.
A little info on the water, sewer and drainage of NO.

Are you aware that Oklahoma also has a Port? The country couls easily do without NO as a port.
Exactly what I have been trying to say. Good grief the news media was worrying about people not washing their hands at the Superdome. I grew up without indoor plumbing, Drs.(Granny used to treat all our sicknesses)Even electricity. We lived with coal oil lamps and crapped.... er.... relieved ourselves outside. We had one winter in Minnesota where we didn't have any firewood and Daddy had to work so it was up to us kids to gather firewood. Ever seen a 6 year old girl and a 9 year old boy use a crosscut saw to saw down a tree and then cut it up for firewood? Man, its scary the way people are so helpless these days. Can you imagine how its going to be if we have a nationwide disaster? There will be the doers and the takers. People better be learning basic survival skills. Lord help us. The government is so concerned about the evacuees, and making sure they have everything, why not provide the people who want to stay with oil lamps, candles and coleman stoves and fuel. I'd say because they don't like independent thinking people. (There I feel better.)
Everyone who goes cruising does exactly what you outlined. So you should also add a holding tank for your sewage to your list of necessities, if you're are planning to "ride it out" in a city.
Oh, thank you for the tidbit!
bump!
Silly Brit, forcing individual Americans from their homes is a police function. The National Guard's job to enforce the Governor's edict.
I would love to see who the puppet master is consulting with Blanco and nagin.
Take the muck, drain some water from it, mix it cement and rock on an accompanying barge and pump it over the top of existing levees for reinforcement to start with? Then fill the bowl at it's lowest spots? How about moving the drainage pumps onto 2 story 200 mph tested concrete reinforced structures with elevated diesel tanks and generators with those pumps?
Nope. I had no idea. And I've only learned about the NO port and the importance since doing crash reading since Katrina.
Beware the authorities in Louisiana. And now that the grifters are involved, I'm sure there will be a lot of money skimmed.
Problem is that those who remain will sh^t in the street and their neighbor's yard.
But just think of the shelters that don't have to be put into operation. All the manpower they are saving by staying put where they are. Makes sense to me. I'm sure its not going to tax the military too much to carry in a little food and water to them. From what I've heard, the situation in the majority of NO has been hyped anyway.
There's a visual:
- Winds howling;
- Water rising;
- People herded into the Superdome like cattle;
- Folks racing for their attics;
- Blanco cowering under her desk, blubbering;
- Nagin running in circles,screaming;
- Squad cars racing away from the city -- sirens blaring!
The survivors are not going to leave.
I agree with them.
