CNN Headline news reporter just stated that the military will not force folks from their homes. "Refusing to force Americans from their homes", said the noticeably British reporter. Further, they will not let residents deteriorate in their own homes. The military will continue to get water and food to those remaining in New Orleans, effectively undermining Nagin's mandatory evacuation order.

I wonder if the military even has the power to forcibly remove people from their home. The police should handle this. We don't want to start a precedent.

Military has said they will not be involved in removing (live) people from their homes, forcibly; they are only their for rescue, etc.

Lack of fresh water and proper sanitation facilities but I look at it as each person makes their own choices.

The danger of disease should be the final determinant of whether people should be forced out of their homes. If there should be an outbreak of TB or Cholera or something else, should everyone merely stand by while the Mayor of NO and the Governor of LA fiddle away?
What additional burdens will such an eventuality place on the Emergency Responders, including the military?
To: Naomi4
Absolutely. The mayor now wants someone else to do their dirty work for him. Get his own police force out there to enforce the order! Let THEM appear in pictures broadcast around the world forcibly dragging people from their homes!
Not that there is a NO police force in NO any more.

The squad cars that aren't in Houston.

If Blanco does not turn over control I don't think the troops can forcibly do anything but rescue and help The reporter said that Nagin has authorized the military to forcibly remove residents. Military says, "What's a Nagin?"
To: neodad
The NO police to try to stop the military?
BWAHAHAHAHA!

Nagin's useless "orders" are becoming comedic. You've summed his "contribution" to this disaster very well.
Somebody get the hooked cane and drag that comedian off the stage.
Please!
The clown is getting in the way of the main program...

Everyone in the U.S. should check their neighborhood for NO squad cars.

I have to agree. Anyone that could stay behind in what will be worse than the Love canal had better make their peace with the Lord. If the mosquito-borne diseases don't get you, some other malady will. It is only a matter of time.

Governor Blanco said as much yesterday -- the military is there for rescue and humanitarian aid, not for law enforcement.
If the military enforced the mandatory evacuation, can you imagine the pictures we'd see -- just recall the FBI man with automatic weapon and goggles going after Elian Gonzalez and that's what we'd see plastered over every publication in the MSM.
