Military says "No." to Nagin (Won't take part in Mayor's debacle)
CNN | 9/7/05 | CNN Headline News

Posted on 09/07/2005 5:41:44 AM PDT by RGSpincich

CNN Headline news reporter just stated that the military will not force folks from their homes. "Refusing to force Americans from their homes", said the noticeably British reporter. Further, they will not let residents deteriorate in their own homes. The military will continue to get water and food to those remaining in New Orleans, effectively undermining Nagin's mandatory evacuation order.

The dry areas are white areas..... I leave it to you to connect the dots and the political future...

Might be a good time for a quick recall election.

Good for General Honore.

Nagin isn't calling the shots. Time for him to resign and slither off to Las Vegas where he belongs.

They need to raze, raise, and rebuild many areas. They really need to be thinking about dredging the canals to LOWER them and using the muck to RAISE parts of the city.

The Dutch are CONSTAANTLY dredging and filling to keep their land above water, NO should be doing the same.

It won't protect against a 25 foot storm surge, face it, not much of anything will, but it sure would help against smaller storms, and lessen the damage from a big mamma-jamma.

the reason would be the sewers dont work , so every soul in the city is polluting it worse. but Nagin is incompetent because 1-mayors dont have the authority
2 if they did it would be to command the police not the military
3 he sent the police away to vegas, those that where not arrested for looting, quit on the job, or killed themselves.
4he doesnt command the military see #2

He still refuses to accept any blame or responsibility for his poor management of the crisis

And why should he? Nagin knows he'll get a free pass from the MSM, and will not face any serious repercussions from his piss-poor handling of this disaster.

It's a nice ride when you are a minority democratic mayor of a minority democratic city.

"Can you imagine Rudy sending his police force to Las Vegas while what was left of the towers, still smoldered ? "

I've seen this point made a couple of times on this thread. The NO police are gone??? Why?? I know several quit but I guess I missed the rest.

They could at least build Shield Walls somewhere that could blunt storm surge.

If a mandatory evacuation order exists and someone refuses to evacuate, they are in violation of law. Perhaps a signed waiver is not necessary, but who would be responsible if that person was shot by a looter or required evacuation because of illness. To what extent do the authorities have responsibility under that condition?

Because of several reasons- Normal life is currently unsustainable by normal means. Where are these people going to get food, fresh water and medical care? What is happening is resources that should be going to other areas are being used to bring food and water to these imbecils (white and black). There are already reports of airborne bacteria making people sick. It will get much worse before it gets better.

Good response!

Good for General Honore.

We simply MUST start getting some of these strong military men into top leadership roles in our country. The ones with the brass cojones who really don't care about the pissant msm and the girly-boys in the senate.

If we could find the right one I'd agree with making him President-for-Life.

He's not the mayor of nuthin' now. He ought to go home. He don't have no constituency no more. And he don't own the property.

I doubt it's anywhere near as toxic as people are claiming. The water will be pumped out and that's about the end of waterborne problems. They've always had lots of mosquitos, nothing new there. Surviving without electricity and pressurized water is also fairly straight forward. There's close to one hundred gallons of water sitting in the basement of every house in America, it's called a water heater. 1 to 2 drops of bleach per quart makes it and a lot of storm runoff is perfectly safe to drink, just bleach it. Avoid dead bodies, remove as possible. There hasn't been law enforcement in NO for over a week, and no effective enforcement for years, all you needs a good firearm.

If 40% of NO is dry, what would be the reason to force the residents out that aren't in sewer water?

Perhaps the fact that they have no power, no water, no telephone, are a drag on rescue workers who have to continue bringing them food and water at risk to their own lives. Also the fact that the city doesnt have the police and fire services to protect them. Soon as their home burns down and no fire department comes to put out the fire, who do you think is going to get sued?

Don't misunderstand -- there's a lot they can do. But a 25 foot storm surge is a western hemisphere tsumami. Nothing is going to really stop it. Like you say, you can blunt it. That would help. Fortunately you don't see a 25 foot storm surge every day -- they didn't get one in this last storm. I think Mississippi did.

I was wondering how the dems would use the forcing of black residents out of Republicans in the next election. Smart choice to allow some other local agency to do the dirty work.

I wonder how many have actually made it to vegas? I think pictures of NO cops partying while the city is still underwater would be quite valuable.
