Poll: Most Americans believe New Orleans will never recover (also great numbers the MSM won't like)

(CNN) -- A majority of Americans believe the city of New Orleans will never completely recover from the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the resulting flooding, according to results of a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday.

Fifty-six percent of 609 adults polled by telephone September 5-6 said they believe the hurricane devastated the city beyond repair. And 93 percent of poll respondents said they believe Katrina is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States in their lifetime.

But a majority of respondents -- 63 percent -- said they believe the city should rebuild. And 66 percent said they believe all New Orleans residents should evacuate the city.

Respondents also disagreed widely on who is to blame for the problems in the city following the hurricane -- 13 percent said Bush, 18 percent said federal agencies, 25 percent blamed state or local officials and 38 percent said no one is to blame. And 63 percent said they do not believe anyone at federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired as a result.

In recent days, 62 percent said they believe progress made in dealing with the situation is satisfactory.

However, a resounding 79 percent said they believe gas companies are taking advantage of the situation and charging unfair prices to consumers as a result of the hurricane.

Lefties are asking the government to cap oil profits.

Maybe lefty attorneys should have their fees capped at 5%.

More proof that 79% of Americans have zero instruction in basic economics.

Well, you know what happens when polls don't fit what the MSM wants. They will take this as reason to rathchet up the Bush bashing. I think we began to see that today with the Hillary softball interviews.

Some expert on MSM yesterday said that his estimates are 10 years just to rid NO of the toxic waste.

You know what this means?? The MSM will SCREAM even louder BUSH'S FAULT and be even more vile than they already are. MSM is too arrogant to realize that there berating is falling on deaf ears. Americans believe what they are seeing, not what the MSM wants them to see.

I'd say a majority of Americans are idiots. "Never" is a very, very long time. I think this is the opportunity NO has needed to take out some garbage, and build fresh. Yes, there are going to be ghettos again; but at least the ghettos will be new for a couple of years before they deteriorate into neglect again.

I think most Americans agreed with Hastert's, first opinon... until the MSM forced him to make a retraction.

"Absence of leadership" "Who's running things?" "Bush has a tin ear." "Is Bush in a bubble?"

I have got to turn off CNN. You were exactly right--immediately after they reported this poll, David Gergen is on and he and Miles O'Brien are having a Bush-bashing fest.

I'm turning it off before I lose my breakfast.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me see if I've got this straight ... there are some folks who think that NO is a total loss and can't be rebuilt but want to rebuild it anyways??
It takes a lot of money to fix something which is beyond repair.
Oil profits aren't a problem. Premiums at the pump seem to be the primary price driver at the moment.
Crude is down to lower than before the hurricane.
The point of interest driving prices is that gasoline wholesalers, and retailers are unable to predict the supply. I think wholesale average is currently around $2.07/gal.
Add on the requisite taxes and voila... you have gas between $2.69 and $3.00 for unleaded regular, depending on whatever other costs are tacked on plus the profit margin.
What happens when you live in a market like Hawaii where gasoline is refined locally, and mainland demand for gasoline doesn't wreak havoc on your supply because there's no easy way to divert supply from the local market to the mainland market?
Well, you'll all be pleasantly surprised to learn that Hawaii's gas prices are in the same range as everybody else's, even though crude prices have gone down, and no real changes to the local market are apparent to casual observations.
So apparently prices for gasoline in Hawaii rose coincidentally to match mainland prices. Just a coincidence I'm sure.
This poll is another example of MSM failure.
This section of poll voters that 66 percent said they believe all New Orleans residents should evacuate the city probably have no idea of the importance of the New Orleans port complex.
NOLA port complex exports more than 52 million tons a year, of which more than half are agricultural products and the bulk commodities of industrialism comes in.
Prudently, there are significant areas of lowland that ought not be rebuilt. If the city ultimately has a much smaller footprint in the future than so be it. Of course, a much smaller New Orleans equates to a much smaller likelihood that liberals will be elected statewide.
At present there are three (3) new storms brewing, one can be ruled out as a possiable hit on N.O., however, I don't think it can withstand a cat 1 at this time.
