U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Barbara Bush: Things Working Out "Very Well" for Poor Evacuees from New Orleans

By E&P Staff

Published: September 05, 2005 7:25 PM ET updated 8:00 PM

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

The former First Lady's remarks were aired this evening on National Public Radio's "Marketplace" program.

She was part of a group in Houston today at the Astrodome that included her husband and former President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son, the current president, to head fundraising efforts for the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama were also present.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this [she chuckles slightly]is working very well for them."

I'd like to think that one of the LA politicians would like to break from the pack and distinguish himself by saying they need to do better in the future.

You know, act as a leader.

I guess that doesn't fit the Louisiana political culture though. They seem to be really good at circling the wagons, blaming others, living it up (Edwin Edwards) and acting as demagogues (Huey Long).

This is why the Clintons and their operatives are out there. They're trying to cover up what amounts to grand theft and criminal neglect, if not outright manslaughter. I call it murder, but I'm just looking at what these bums can be charged with.

Did not the President request Clinton and Bush 41?

I apologize. I've seen so many posts this week that have shocked me that I misunderstood yours. Of course, I don't want sick children in school. I would hope the doctors will check them thoroughly before sending them, but I'm sure some will slip through the cracks.

For those in the stadiums, I wouldn't think they'd get much of a rest there. If it were my child, I'd rather him be at school than in a stadium packed with thousands of people. I'm guessing... are the people in Plano staying in the stadium for the Minor League Baseball Team? Or are these children staying in homes where they could indeed rest and heal?

Believe it or not- Shep and B O'R are having a level-headed discussion about this- Bill points out the federal bureaucracy is nearly impossible to move in a HUGE event like this. Shep points out THERE WAS NO PLAN. Bill replies- yes there was- he's studied it- it's in his briefcase- and The Plan was ineffective and worthless (paraphrasing)...

I just found this FR thread in regard to the 1996 election of LA Democrat Mary Landrieu for the Senate. It's easy reading. The first 5 or 6 very short paragraphs are a MUST read! I didn't even need to read the rest. Now we know how she was elected!

I have been transfixed by listening to a royal rant by the MSNBC guy, which I had switched to in a no-O'Reilly hour. He is amazing in his scathing blame of everything on the President Bush and his admin. Not one word about the mayor, the buses, the Governor, the LANG, etc. Phenomenal. I just hope his ratings are down around 100000 viewers. Wow, he just emitted a lot of his own toxic sludge. Wow! Pure vitriol!

It may be difficult to see but they are looking out for themselves individually. Any one of them would throw another under the bus for self-preservation, witness Nagin blaming Blanco.

It's the pirate culture -- and, yes, Eddie Edwards-type politics. It all goes way back to the most honest, forthright and popular public figure in Louisiana history... Jean Lafitte.

NPR? Oh well....I guess they wouldn't like to hear what I have to say, either. Our evacuees that haven't gone on to relatives in other states...are staying in Texas! The little family I was working with are leaving for Houston tomorrow. Dad has already been offered a job...he's a construction/house painter worker. They're very happy. Didn't want to return to NO.
