U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Standard maneuver, the Libs have generals too.

They will slide in a political smear whenever they can, but as soon as anyone else tries it you will hear them piously say we all should work together and not point fingers.

Laugh at them, and point out their inconsistency.

They know they are operating from a position of weakness, and ridicule usually shuts them up the quickest.

In other news, I heard Ellis Henican say that we really can't depend on the local officials to respond in a disaster like this, because they've lost their families and homes also. He said it's all the Fed's job.

I can't stand that Ellis Henican. What a nasty little weasel. He'll spin every which way to blame the Feds (i.e. Bush)!

When is that next "area of interest" in the Atlantic expected to make landfall? I don't know all the ins & outs of weather forcasting but I do understand that there are many factors that make prediction difficult at best. What is the soonest it could reach Florida (or wherever it is most likely aimed)? How likely is it to go north or south? Thanks.

One poster earlier showed a model that shows a second hurricane hitting LA again later this week. Not sure how much validity it has, but if want to check it out, you can find it here.

This discussion is from the NHS:

A 1009 MB LOW IS CENTERED BETWEEN ANDROS ISLAND IN THE BAHAMAS AND THE SOUTHEAST COAST OF FLORIDA NEAR 26N79W DRIFTING TO THE NW. THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION IS NOT THAT WELL-DEFINED IN MIAMI RADAR IMAGERY BUT THE OVERALL CIRCULATION APPEARS TO BE BECOMING A LITTLE STRONGER IN SATELLITE IMAGERY. DEEP CONVECTION IS BECOMING A LITTLE MORE CONSOLIDATED ESPECIALLY N OF THE CENTER AND WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO 25 KT AT FREEPORT AND SETTLEMENT POINT BAHAMAS. SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION FROM 24N-28N BETWEEN 74W-80W INCLUDING OVER GREAT ABACO...GRAND BAHAMA... ANDROS...AND NEW PROVIDENCE ISLANDS AND MOVING WWD TOWARDS THE FLORIDA COAST. THE LOW IS EXPECTED TO DRIFT NW BENEATH AN UPPER LEVEL ANTICYCLONE AND BE NEAR OR OVER FLORIDA DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. TROPICAL CYCLONE DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE NEXT 36 HRS IF THE SYSTEM REMAINS OVER WATER.

Too early to get alarmed about anything. Besides, nautinurse needs a break!

He said it's all the Fed's job.

They just love to revamp the Constitution anytime they can, don't they?

I'd love to see the state try to take over NC during a storm. U G L Y.

Newt is running for President.

And DC Republicans seeking national approval or election know:

If, as a Republican, you say something that pi$$es the LEFT off, you lose the "moderates," who are totally spoon-fed the "facts" by media, and you become a pariah, crucified in media. (This is EXACTLY what happened to NEWT ten years ago).

If, as a Republican, you say something that DOESN'T pi$$ off the left, and instead pi$$es off the RIGHT, you lose little or nothing, because the voters on the right have nowhere else to turn and are going to vote Republican ANYWAY.

PLUS, you get articles about yourself in the NYT and Atlantic Monthly, and you get invited to DC parties with Tim Russert and Teddy Kennedy.

Yes, but I haven't heard reports that they are refusing to go to the 9 other states.

This has nothing to do with leaving NO. They already have left NO. It's about where they DON'T want to go.

my first reaction is to think it's just because it's so far away from everything/and everyone they know. Much harder to get back home or to see family. I would guess many of these people have never been very far from home.

"what's the date of that email? it must be from the middle of last week, the stuff described there can't be going on right now."

I don't know but it says: "My uncle, who is a dr. working out of east jefferson, is literally appalled at the thought that they are allowing people from jefferson back in on monday to "check on their stuff"... the disease that is in the air and water, the lack of running water, people are going to ####ing RIOT...."

It's not from today. When was the decision made to let people back to Jefferson. Wasn't that yesterday or the day before??

It's about where they DON'T want to go.

Texas isn't far, far away. Utah is far, far away. I'm telling you... that's all it is.

Blanco's out of the loop.

Per the WP article from yesterday, she was offered the opportuity to come inside by requesting that Bush federalize the afflicted areas, but she refused.

The lines are drawn, the battle has commenced.

Bush holds the purse strings, and Blanco holds the media's sympathy.

Much of it will occur below our sightlines and we will have to infer that part of it.

But that the battle has been joined is evidenced by Honore's comments and tone.

Gloves are off.

The part of it that we actually see will get bloodier.

It's up to the host to have enough knowledge to tell Ellis jerko that he has his facts wrong. And Ellis is an expert? That ticks me off.

Speaking of Ellis, he disregarded the ABC poll this morning because it didn't produce the results they wanted about Bush today. Which is why the media, that had lessoned a little in intensity, picked up hard again when released when they realized they didn't have the Prez nailed as they had thought.

Now I'm not one that is high on the integrity of polls...but the MSM live and die by them. So do the political elites. They believe every word, and considering the source and circumstances, the truth is even better then imagined in that ABC poll.
