"But who would drive them?"

20 year old Jabbar knew what to do. And he had never driven a bus before! He just drove around New Orleans picking anybody up until he had a full bus, then he drove to Houston.

400 buses X 70 passengers = 28,000 evacuees per trip.

Must agree...he showed more leadership, and common sense than any elected official down there. The 70 may, in fact, owe their lives to him.

Wait just one minute. I thought they said they could not evacuate those people in New Orleans. That it was Bush's fault they were still there?

What the heck are all those buses and how is it that a 20-year-old kid could figure out how to save 70 people?

Those buses will be auctioned off and Federal dollars (yours and mine, that is) will be used to replace them.

After all of them hit the market, count on hippy types driving diesel school buses with lots of rust.

Dig deep in your pockets, 'cause the Mayor knows buses are on the way - right from the factory.

Nary a chance missed by Norry to bash the President as millions listen in. The man is a great broadcaster IMO (I've listened to radio since the 1940s) but he is absolutely obsessed with hatred for "Daddy Warbucks Republicans" especially Halliburton.

George Noory a great broadcaster? He and his mentor Art Bell are a pestilence on the AM dial! All they do is interview a never endling list of worthless charlatans and paranoid dingbats, while posing nary a critical question.

Unfortunately, they broadcast at night, which means they fill the dial as the skip rolls in. If so many sheeple were not addicted to listening to them, perhaps a few more stations around the country might find something worthwhile to put on instead (like the Rush Limbaugh reruns on WBAL 1090 out of Baltimore).

The cool part is that the kid will get job offers, a mentor/helping hand, and/or some interesting opportunities... all for stealing a bus (which would've gotten him jail time last month). Only in America!

And I am very happy that this young man saw the problem, saw that it needed a solution, and realized that if he waited for the government to fix it, he (and others) would likely die. I have nothing but respect and admiration for this young man.

The mayor actually said that there should have been Greyhound buses provided.

That explains it. He was waiting for the Greyhound buses, that is why he did not use the School buses. Everybody knows you can't evacuate unless you have those Greyhound buses!! The feds should have known that. / extreme sarcasm

"I consider him an American hero"

Oh me too. I luv this. It's a perfect example of American self reliance. He should be elected mayor, governor, senator. We need "take charge" people like him . His story should be told to everyone.

How I wish more people would have done what he did. It was so sad to see people waiting to be saved. That's my biggest gripe with liberalism- it makes people dependent, and unable to think for themselves.

When they teach Black History, they need to tell African Americans about their true heritage, not only that they survived slavery, but, that many of their ancestors were cowboys . They were the tough, resilient, self-reliant, people who settled the West.

Also- during the early part of the last century, African Americans had stronger family values, and lower out of wedlock birth rates, than whites. I bet no one teaches these facts. How about the life story of our National Treasure-Ray Charles-he made his own way in the world, in spite of racism, and his blindness. He brought people of all races together with his music, and left the world a better place. He didn't wait for someone to save him.

If you keep telling a person, from childhood, that everything is against them, that there's no hope, and teach them to blame what goes wrong in their lives on someone else, to take no personal responsibility, they will never be able to take care of themselves, even when their lives depend on it.

Thank God that Mr. Gibson didn't give up.

I really hope that when the dust settles, he receives the recognition he deserves. I really admire people who rise to the occasion during times like these while others just stand around whining. Jabbar Gibson is a "can do" American.

Hey, he may have the only working school bus left to the city of New Orleans! The Mayor can just send somebody to pick it up.
