Murder and Mayhem in New Orlean's Miserable Shelter: Lessons from the Dome
Reuters ^ | September 2, 2005 | Mark Egan

Valenti and her husband, two of very few white people in the almost exclusively black refugee camp, said she and other whites were threatened with murder on Thursday.

"They hated us. Four young black men told us the buses were going to come last night and pick up the elderly so they were going to kill us," she said, sobbing. "They were plotting to murder us and then they sent the buses away because we would all be killed if the buses came -- that's what the people in charge told us this morning."

Other survivors recounted horrific cases of sexual assault and murder.

Sitting with her daughter and other relatives, Trolkyn Joseph, 37, said men had wandered the cavernous convention center in recent nights raping and murdering children.

She said she found a dead 14-year old girl at 5 a.m. on Friday morning, four hours after the young girl went missing from her parents inside the convention center.

"She was raped for four hours until she was dead," Joseph said through tears. "Another child, a seven-year old boy was found raped and murdered in the kitchen freezer last night."

I don't think that the lessons can be driven home any harder: Never give up your guns. Never rely on the government for protection. When good people give up the option of force, power defaults to the evil ones. I hope America pays attention to this microcosm of a population disarmed by the government.

Women can fight too. I think a lot of people were in shock though.

Mayor Ray Nagin and his subordinates took off for Baton Rouge almost immediately after Katrina hit. The people who voted for him took over from there.

New Orleans' Mayor Ray Nagin squandered his moment of opportunity to become a hero; squandered his opportunity to be the spark igniting those things that are noble, courageous, and gallant.

Nagin, a failed hero, encouraged no one, urged no one, to "become" that legend of his time....a star to shine from out this darkess and forever into the future.

Instead, Nagin's tale, and, therefore, New Orleans', is overwhelming one of derision, of blame, of cowardice, and of vulgarity.

"Am I just being to analytical?"

The Guardsman was likely just wanting to deny a sensationalist journalist his fix.

Bottom line is: the Super Dome was just a microcosm of life in NO before the hurricane.

They have a high murder/rape crime rate. As the Baton Rouge mayor said he didn't want any NO "thugs" (his term) in his city.

The mayor even admitted they have a high drug and murder rate in his interview blasting Bush/Blanco.

That Dome, unfortunately, was business as usual for the NO residents, and that's probably why they didn't react to the violence.

BTW, is the Black Caucus calling black gangs targeting whites "racial discrimination."

And why would a National Guardsman say go to Iraq? Does the Guardsman think first of dead bodies when he thinks of Iraq?

Saddam's mass graves. And continued reports of INNOCENT Iraqi's being murdered by thugs and terrorists. IMHO, that's what the man was referring to.

90% of all Blacks pretty much hate white America - about the same number who vote democrat. The left coddles them the right coddles them and allows their leaders to spew their hate for America especially white America. What we are seeing in NO is the true feelings of Blacks who have been raised on a philosophy of hate, blame others, and expect something for nothing. You will hear no mention of this on the mainstream news - other than white America was to blame for the fact that help was so late in coming because we are racist.

(one a side note, I wonder how many other major cities are this unprepared for a catastrophy, especially ones of economic, strategic importance?)

#####

I am stunned by the lack of a FLOOD disaster plan for a city that relied on artificial barriers from WATER.

Fortunately, the majority of our states are governed by Republicans who are better able to think ahead. This will be a wake up call for them. For example: Baltimore, same population distribution as New Orleans, dem Mayor, ? disaster plan, Republican governor, who hopefully will provide adult supervision.

This same governor has had to order a takeover of the Baltimore public school system because of demonstrated incompetence.

Aside -- the Superindentent of schools' salary is $300,000.

"You better believe his foes would be drawing up impeachment papers if he just drops the 82nd on NO."

I don't think so. NOLA is in a state of disaster compounded by insurrection.

On the radio last night, Savage responded to the NO Mayor's publicized rant about the federal governments inadequate response. He stated that he would have been even more vehement about that issue.

Savage lost a great deal of any respect that I might have held for him. He somehow fails to see where the real responsibility lies, in dealing with this tradgedy. It lies with the City first, the State, a close second, and the feds third.

The mayor is acting like any juvenile would, when caught doing something bad, pass the blame to someone else and express "righteous" indignation over their actions or in this case, inactions.

The sad truth is the MSM will buy into his ploy wholeheartedly.

No Doubt

You would think that a few people there with their families would get together and stand watch over their own families. Who was organizing this mess anyway. As the men walked through the door you think you could inform them that they were needed to help with security.

It almost seems that these people that stayed back were a element of society that could not wait for the anarchy phase of the disaster.

Katrina??? who is that b!tch? I'm just here for the free TV.
