President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

It's going to be tough. Best thing they could do is set up special schooling in the Dome and truly assimilate these people into a society that is much different than they are used to,

Things are great for me despite some of my whining yesterday. I suffered from a lack of perspective due to being without power and information and food and gas for several days. These little inconveniences are completely insignificant and I am ashamed to have complained about them after having talked to people who really know what suffering is all about.

Someone said he goes to and from Baton Rouge which means he he should have been bringing back water IMHO. I don't like phoneys especially as reporters and this is looking more and more like his whole story of the ramp was a story to get himself noticed.

Harrigan has him beat by a mile with class, integrity, and ability to report the truth. He is what I call a journalist.

How in the hell do you know that this isn't the plan. Look, this is unprecedented. This is a nuclear explosion without the radiation. This is 92,000 square miles of total destruction. This is a hell of a lot bigger that what is happening in New Orleans. There are 2 million people out there that have lost everything and, once again, those that are adults are taking care of themselves until help arrives and those that are emotional infants are sitting on their hands waiting for help to get to them.

Let me ask you this. The super dome was at least shelter. There were literally 1000's of able bodied men in that shelter that could have at least organized themselves to keep the criminals from preying on the weak and protecting those that couldn't protect themselves. What did they do, the trashed the only shelter they had to the point of it being uninhabitable. Now we see able bodied MEN scrambling on to buses while women children and elderly are left behind. At this point there shouldn't be one damn male under the over the age of 18 in any of the shelters in Texas. They should all be in NO helping to get their wives kids and parents the hell out of NO.

Bears repeating over and over. That has been something that has been ticking me off.

"Both clowns, along with Drama Queen Shepard Smith have injected themselves INTO the story"

I saw them interview people with hellish experiences. I think that they corroborated this anecdotal info making it significant and representative.

This ain't Russia. We take care of our own.

I don't want that happening in my country.

Too late for the defeated liberal media. The American people saw looting, murders, and other crimes committed by those scums and they are utterly disgusted. I tell you that in the ulra-liberal state of Massachusetts most people that I talked to are shocked at the behavior of the people at New Orleans and they are blaming them for being too stupid to stay or decide to stay for looting. I think this sentiment is common among the majority of Americans.

Of course the media will conduct a lot of bogus and biased polls to make look it like people are blaming President Bush for this, but they are just blind to the fact, that in reality most Americans are disgusted with the behavior of the many residents of New Orleans who stupidly decided to stay or to loot and commit hideous crimes.

I would really like to know the population of New Orleans compared to all these folks that stayed behind.

And O'R's overproduced show has really added to the disaster tonight. Like HE could really do something with all of his 'power'.

EXACTLY!

Battery powered electric razor. I keep one in my truck - can be used for a solid week before I have to change the AA batts out or recharge them.

My daughter, who is about as "unaware" of the "world" as anyone I know (I love her, but she just had a baby...and she is kind of in her OWN world right now)...

was watching the coverage with me tonight...and she said, "Mom, you know who is laughing at us right now?", and I said no....couldn't imagine who she would be talking about...

She said, "Bin Ladin...this hurricane has managed to do more than he could, and now he has the country fighting against each other...so he won't have to."

I looked at her thinking..."out of the mouths of the uninformed"....lol

I guess you missed the Steve Harrigan report at that location with gunfire, that had a fire burning, where police and guard teams had to move in.

the french quarter has the best security details, that is no secret, and not surprising. its also not under water.

I thought BOR was weird with that too..? What was up with that? He acted like he was in charge of the National Guard and the White House.

I could see his head growing right before my eyes. Had to leave the 19" TV and move to the 27" just to watch the show.

I agree with you. They have an SUV, they could go to the authorities and tell them where they are. Why didn't they? Why did they go to all the histrionics on TV knowing those who could help were too busy to be watching TV?

Me either. One reporter/journalist I trust is Harrigan -- never grandstands and reports what is happening.

Thanks Mike for the links....Was listening to an Indianapolis radio station. A VP from the parent company was on...He'd gone to NOLA to take supplies, check on staff, equipment etc to the station in NO. Was very impressed with him and the company....Noted that all employees but one had been located and will recieve the regular pay checks and be notified when the station would be up and running with temp facilities and housing.
