That's as bad as the woman who was given an MRE and complained it was too cold and didn't taste good. She had been without food and water for days and an MRE that our own military eats isn't good enough for her! Isn't entitlement grand?

I've wondered that since Monday!
Also, does NO have public transit buses?
If so, why were they not used also?!!!
Hell, cattle cars on a train would have worked.

What I would like to know. While W was in Crawford (as so many point out)calling Nagin and Blanco, what were they doing on FRIDAY and SATURDAY? Plenty of time to go out into the neighborhoods with school, rta buses etc and pick people up or at least let them know were to go if they wanted Shelter. More food, water could have been deployed in the dome and not just rations for 2 days but for at least one week. knowing that electricty goes out and pumps fail as they do in heavy rain there, he could have had port-a-johns in the dome. It is easier for him to blame the Fed (W) than for him to take responsibility. Those are just a couple of solutions that could have been done to avoid the tragedy that has been unfolding since Late Sunday early Monday morning. I give him credit in some areas but he failed along with Blanco. The Good News is they are both Democrates (yes, politics, especially in La.)will play a big part of the blame game.
Just so you know, I thought Nagin, before Katrina was at least doing better than Mark Morial or his father had ever done.

Your right but unfortunately voters have a lousy memory.

Yep.

And that's if the buses were used only ONCE.

How many trips could the buses make?

Even if you only had 48hrs notice...and had a designated drop off point(s) say 3 hours away. Each bus could be used for 6 trips. So there's 60,000 possible evacuations from those 200 buses. And that's before the storm hits.

Buses are evidently stored at this location (see Google Maps Link) this is 2817 Canal Street the home of New Orleans City of: Regional Transit Authority-RTA, I'm sure other locations of buses in N.O. can be identified too.

The MSM will NEVER criticize Mayor Nagin, because he is a Democrat and because he is black. They don't care how many citizens of NO he killed through his incompetence. As long as they can find a white Republican to blame, they are happy.

I'm bright enough to know that you can't start a waterlogged vehicle

I think there's a misunderstanding, LPC. People are wondering why they didn't deploy the buses BEFORE the hurricane to get the people out. Instead, they sat empty and idle.

I was thinking about this early today. It was known that thousands of NO residents rely on public transportation, so why not alert municipal, regional and private bus lines/agencies to mobilize and double their efforts in evacuating those citizens? Mr. Mayor... ? Ms. Governor... ?"

Cus all dem busa driveas lefta town and wezz dont knws how to driva dah buses

We asked this same question in our house BEFORE the hurricane (they would have saved both the people and the busses). We also wondered (before the hurricane) why they didn't use the astrodome instead of the superdome BEFORE the hurricane.

We have incompetents in power. Most of us are smarter and more resourceful than are they.

Great picture, I believe originally posted by TGSLtacoma.

Another question Mr. Mayor:

"Why didn't you order mandetory evacuation Saturday or Friday? You knew it was comming? Or not?

Oh. I remember before Camille that emergency workers were going DOOR-TO-DOOR telling people to get out, or ask for information to give their next of kin.

You failed Mr. Mayor and Govenor for not ordering a manditory evacuation sooner. So stop pointing fingers at Bush.

Don't you know that Greyhound buses are air conditioned and school buses generally are not?

To say that they should have been moved to high ground before the storm is hindsight B.S.

I disagree. It's a lack of planning:
1) A Category 5 hurricane is coming straight at you.
2) The city is below sea level and the levees are built to hold up against a Category 3 hurricane.
3) The situation is dire enough that everyone from the president on down is urging people to get out of the area and seek shelter.

It was no mystery that the town was likely to be flooded. Mother nature actually gave them an additional 24 hours to get out before the levees broke.

This is a massive failure to plan coupled with a stubborn populace many of whom either didn't understand the danger or chose to ignore it.
