President to speak at 9am ...
You still don't play games even with a Category 3 Hurricane
Especially when your city is BELOW sea level
You get the heck out of there ... PRONTO!
This disaster is SO enormous. There is no way it could be 'under control' at this point, no matter how well things were carried out.
The perception is far more important than the reality in a lot of cases. Dubya cultivated a poor perception over the last 10 weeks. That the perception is, in fact, inaccurate is valid, but to the extent the perception exists is the important thing.
Jealousy? Left media plant? Don't know...
I agree, I have seen video and pictures of those busses, when I saw them, I thought to myself, what a friggin CRIME it was that they were unused.
We were massively unprepared for this, and I think this actually shows a vulnerability of all major urban cities to a disaster.
Steve Harrigan said that in his last report on Fox. He said it was like the wild west.
The heros are ALWAYS forgotten in the rush to place blame and then remain forgotten for years afterward, until history corrects perception. Remember the NYFD? First heros, then accused of looting (a couple were), now ALL of them remembered for more for the looting incident than their dedication and hard work in rescuing people. We can thank NY Democrats and their mass media for that.
I don't know ... but sadly we can't rule that out
And even sadder .. when the fire crews come in and try to put the fire out .. they are shot at
What the hell is wrong with those people down there
At this point .. it would not surprise me to see Steve Harrigon wearing a helmet while doing his reporting
I can't figure that out either.
In many respects, the last couple of days have not been our finest hour.
Not Bingo. You guys don't get it. The perception is more important than the reality in a situation like this. Dubya's investment in homeland security flopped bigtime, and everybody can see that. How much that reflects reality remains to be seen. In the meantime, that perception is important.
Denial isn't a river in Egypt.
I am beyond disgusted
Wouldn't doubt it. It seems things are coming apart again. I wouldn't even fly the President over in a helicopter.
Every conservative knows that the left has lied incessantly about this President since day 1. That's where the 'perception' comes from.
It is NOT what the President has or hasn't done, and it's not going to be changed by anything he does now.
It's a time for ingenuity and solutions. Just because leftmedia blacks out the extent of the rescue efforts underway does not mean nothing is being done. At this time, none of us can comprehend the extent of the disaster. Casualties are unavoidable. Don't you understand the power of nature by now? We are mere humans. And we need to be helping -- not hurting -- the situation. Have a heart, Hitman!
STOP PICKING ON THE PRESIDENT!!!
Police just faced off with the renegade vehicle. Steve Harrigan says civil authorites and SOLDIERS have arrived on scene.
I believe what we have is an influx of DU trolls here. They already have a thread posted over there quoting people from this thread, as evidence we are "finally" seeing what an incompetent boob the President is. That is their main objective. Not actually helping the people who need help, but bashing the President.
Yep. Katrina hit parts of four states. Most people behave as though only New Orleans was affected, when only NO is affecting everything else.
I do not disagree but I wonder what the answer is? A first step, as in most things, is to see it like it is and tell it like it is. You have done that but I wonder what is next?
I lived through the '50s and early '60s in my formative years under the shadow of worldwide nuclear war, and things like civil defense and fallout shelters were the things talked about then. But then the naysayers came along with the (politically motivated) mantra that "you can't survive, much less win, a nuclear war, and if you try all you are is a warmonger who makes such a disaster more likely". IOW, sit back and be held hostage, and if the worst happens, take it like a man. So CD, as a realistic buffer against nuclear catastrophe, became non-functional.
With natural disasters, it also seems like the current system makes it a non-win situation, ripe for second-guessing and demagoguery by opportunistic pols. There's nothing new or surprising in that, but in real terms, where can we go from here?
Scratch one "renegade vehicle". Show it on TV. Make it known that that is now policy.
