9/11 was a "military" attack. Required a different approach including F-16(whatever) jets flying over and the national shut down of all flights. The military took over and gave the orders. Mayor Guiliani stepped up to the plate immediately and took charge.

Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster of exponential damage to 9/11. The military is not supposed to take over local issues -- eg. difference between CIA & FBI. It was the job of the local mayor & governor to initiate help & relief. If Bush had taken over the airwaves on Monday, the Mayor of NO & the Governor would have yelled at him for stepping on their turf.

It doesn't help for people to get so angry. Would you like to tell us what you personally have done for Biloxi?

You don't need to answer if you have not done anything yet. No doubt you would not be alone.

Don't worry (if you are worried).

The attention span of this country is about two weeks, three, tops.

By 2006, this will be a faint memory and by 2008, it will be nostalgia.

Bush is a great president who has been dealt crippling blows that were no fault of his.

There are many he could blame, rightfully, but he chooses to just do his job instead. History will see it.

Oh, but they said the president should have been there sooner on camera! Does everyone now see it is FOOLOSHNESS to pander to what the MSM wants? The fact the MSM says he should be out front on camera doesn't make it so, but conservatives fell for the damn line and demanded he show his face. he does, and here CNN bashes him for doing what they said they wanted.

It's time conservatives grew up.

Ok...specifically ... Actions speak louder than words. Obviously, you know what I meant from the content of my post.

You've never denied that your a liberal, White Guy (that's not 'name-calling' if it's true). And liberals like style over substance. Everyone on this forum knows that.

The poster was saying the exact opposite of what you thought she did.

I know you're not stupid. I just figured you lacked reading skills.

Try reading it again (you missed the "WHEN HE'S MAKING HIS REMARKS" part).

I think what's most disturbing is that we've been hearing for a couple years now from H.S. how we have to prepare for WMD terrorism and do drills and have plans for mass evacaution, decontamination, etc. I would relate this situation to a WMD going off, but without the radiation to keep rescuers away, but water instead.

What happened?

Clearly, we're not prepared for WMD terrorism on any level. I'm not bashing Bush, I'm bashing the entire apparatus. The whole thing is broken.

I knew someone could figure it out.

I really hate to say this, but this is starting to feel like a screw-up I thought only a flying circus like the Clinton Administration could accomplish.

Anybody with an ounce of clarity can see that the admin looks awful in this. Clarity is in short supply on FR this week.

Katrina was a minor storm until Saturday. And yes, it would have been great if FEMA was ready, they were not. In all actuality, I think there needs to be a change in the way FEMA operates.

By the way, I didn't know that weather phenomena would cause so many new people to sign up. Welcome to FreeRepublic.

Well it definitely affects the electoral college if they can't rebuild and people move to other states...

Do you think that a majority of Americans will say they would rather have a president with the same kind of admin skills as the mayor of NO and the gov of LA? I don't.

Mayor of New Orleans waited until the last minute for the evacuation orders, mayor let looting go.

I am so tired of the feds getting blamed and not the mayor and governor who didn't issue evacuation orders quickly, brought people to the superdome which was going to lose power was a disaster, and then let looting go crazy.

It is all part of PC with the mayor letting gangs run out of control even before the disaster.

CAN THE MSM EVER BLAME THE MAYOR OR GOVERNOR, PRESIDENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN CONTROL OF CITIES HE HAS NEVER EVEN VISITED BEFORE.

I AM SO SICK OF THE MSM, IF THERE WAS A LAW AND ORDER MAYOR LIKE GULIANI THE SITUATION WOULD BE DIFFERENT.

GOVERNOR NEVER ASKED FOR MORE NATIONAL GUARD BEFORE THE HURRICANE IT IS HER RESPONSIBILITY.

I know about the time differential. At this time of year I have the Weather Channel on 24 hours a day, whenever a storm gets within five days of me.

By Friday night, katrina had jumped from 75 mph to 105 mph and was taking dead aim at NO. That's 60 hours warning. And storms do not ever weaken over open, warm water.

Some people don't undertand federalism. The state are NOT subdepartments of the central government. Bush is pushing against a pillow right now. He was hoping that Blanco could provide the same high quality of leadership that Jeb Bush did in Florida. Hasn't got it.

I suppose, while you've been busy blaming the President, you have also contributed some aid to the Katrina rescue and rebuilding efforts?

What you said was very clear.

Just had breakfast with three refugees from Mississippi. They are lucky; houses intact, but they can't get into them..roads covered with trees plus no power.

They are crusin' relatives right now, but anxious to get back.

"That's why we have a Coast Guard. People better knock off bashing the Navy."

BUMP The Coast Guard has been quietly doing it's job and has rescued over 4,000 people...while not being there far too late in a scale way too small of course. Which is why the media doesn't report stuff like that.
