President to speak at 9am ...
I agree. But that isn't President Bush that is the responsibility of the State and Local Government. Correct?
What I'm saying and you're ignoring is that by nature this can never be functional and safe (I used your words) because it's the unexpected death of a city (NO).
Death is messy... and to get all those people without mess.. sorry, it can't happen. It takes too long to mobilize because it just takes time. You can't say, in three hours, this must be done... Looks good on paper, maybe able to do it drills, but not in reality...
So, it does look messy. It does look like it is chaotic. Because it is.
People know he cares. Locals will remember that he came and expressed what he was doing and going to do alleviate their suffering.
Could you repeat that please. I don't think the message is getting through.
You are 100% correct. I don't understand why everyone is ranting against H.S. When have they ever had to take care of weather problems before?
Politicians only listen to those things that keep them in office...
That's why we have to pray WITHOUT CEASING for him, Mary.
NYC
Pataki can handle a crisis, not confidant about Bloomberg but Rudy's management of that city I doubt has been completely removed in the time Bloomberg has held office so they'd probably survive as they did 9-11.
New Haven
Newark
Philadelphia
Detroit
Chicago
Denver
The other cities I'm not too sure of. Detriot and Philadelphia strike me as real problem areas. Daley has his problems, but I believe he's rise to the occasion in Chicago. But the Illinois government at the highest state levels is massively of concern to me. This is the state of Durbin (D) and Ryan (R) and neither strike me as reassuring of Reps or Dems competancy in that state.

If FR is for "thinking conservatives," then criticism is part of thinking. Nobody gets better if all we do is pat them on the back.
This person wasn't just making comments with which I disagreed. They were lying about certain facts over and over and I called them on that.
I can handle disagreement in a mannerly fashion.
The other poster obviously could not for they earned a ZOT with their behavior.
Yes, looking at it on Friday, we should have evacuated the city... but no one expected NO to be utterly destroyed...no matter how it is playing out now.
The Mayor did call for evacuations. The mistake was that they didn't make the people go. Those who stayed were sent to the Superdome to ride out the hurricane, not be stuck there when the levees failed. There is a difference...
And that's directed towards me because...
EXACTLY!
No hard feelings at all!
Yes. As I have said, there has been simultaneous and cascading failures on the part of the local, state, federal govs, and the citizenry.
So plans were devised that were not functional and safe?
I'm not so sure it was helpful.
Because some administration official was on Bill O'Reilly last night and he said martial law and the military cannot be used to help law enforcement unless Congress so requests.
So now I'm completely confused! LOL
I agree with your observations.
Thank you for posting that link. How I missed it yesterday, I don't know. (o:
