President to speak at 9am ...
I didn't say that they would have known the levees would fail. I said that whatever the plan was to evacuate the city, it wasn't good enough or wasn't implemented.
If terrorists blew up the levees and flooded the city suddenly, what was the plan? The Superdome with no security presence? Good thinking....
FEMA shouldn't be beholden to the 5-day forecast. FEMA isn't going to get a 5-day notice before a nuclear bomb goes off in a major city (take your pick). FEMA needs to have plans in place and ready to implement BEFORE the crap hits the fans. It's the Federal EMERGENCY Management Association, not the Federal "We're Working On It" Management Association.
He wants to go to NO, but doesn't want his presence to take away from the law enforcement presence necessary to maintain the security of the city. It takes a lot of security to have the President, and he is aware of that... that is why he says that NO is a wait and see visit point.
You misunderstand - some folks insinuated I was a DU troll. I pointed out that I was a longtime Freeper, predating many of the critics, and that my observations over that time don't place my conservative outlook and world view into question.
In that context, it is meaningful. It's evidence I am not a DU troll.
It is spiritual, it is relational, it is intellectual, it is philosophical, and it is real.
I am not worried about artificial perceptions, because in the scheme of things, and in light of eternity, they are meaningless.
And the President understands that, and that understanding is what motivates him to act as he does...........regardless of 'perception.'
Ohio, on the live thread, I was just mentioning a minute ago about that video. There is a live screen shot of the president's arms around those girls.
It was very, very moving. They were crying and will always remember that the President of the United States of America came to them and held them in their grief.
If that perception gave us a President Kerry, then it would matter.
My life is spiritual, it is relational, it is intellectual, it is philosophical, and it is real, too.
That doesn't undermine what I am saying at all.
You'll note my remark refers to the sum of states and cities affected with only new Orleans seemingly in chaos. You'll note I addressed that reveals chinks, but that when the vast majority are being dealt with with relative smoothless it doesn't, as you may wish, discredit the entire agency. And that was the point I was addressing.
It was contended the entire Agency was a failure and that stands in direct dispute with the evidence that suggests in most areas it has responded, while not perfectly, certainly with some competance.
I haven't absolved it of blame, only deny it is a complete failure. Please read the sum of my remarks prior to posting.
P.S. I checked the pings and guess what, not once was Bush being blamed. So, Ms. Two Year Veteran of the Forum, find the post and get back to me. And, do me a favor, don't get back to me unless you have all this, ok? There are more informed folks on here I would rather converse with. Oh, by the way, Oprah is one in two hours.
Somehow, I touched a real raw nerve with you, because I have never met a brand-new sign up as obnoxious and insulting as you are.
Been banned before and you're back to stir up the pot?
There. That's better.
2 QUESTIONS: Have you ever been banned from this site? Have you ever had another name here?
But it didn't, did it? Because what is spiritual transcends perception.
THAT is my point, and my assurance to you that you worry in vain.
I'm sorry, I tried to find where you stated cities, but the thread is so massive. Could you repeat the cities you want an opinion of?
So you're saying H.S. will get the "hang of it" one day?
Nobody IS in charge, sink. We can all see that from the lack of help these people have received so far. Police can only do so much, they don't have food either. To me that's the worst part of all this--not getting food and water to people and they actually dying because they can't get food or medical help. What a shame. I hope this serves as an example of how NOT to have a far reaching emergency. Think of what would happen if we had nuclear bombs going off in several of our largest cities. I shudder to think of it.
"Isn't there a Chief of Staff down there who should be doing all the actual work while the Gov gets out there for the photo op? If there isn't, the Gov ought to appoint one, preferably an Andrew Jackson if they have one these days."
Ostensibly, you're right. What does it tell you about that staff given the current situation? You should see Patty Murray's staff. Wow. I've actually dealt with some of them.
You are looking for Blanco to actually appoint someone that can run things for her? She can't seem to form the words 'martial law' with her lips and you want her to be clearheaded enough to pick a good disaster administrator at this late date?
I'll give you an insight on why she can't pick a good surrogate: Guess who the Lt. Governor is related to? Mary Landrieau. Blanco is surrounded by idiots because she's the one doing the surrounding in the first place.
This will be an object lesson for the importance of local elections. Hire an idiot, and one of these days your life may depend upon that idiot spontaneously growing superior disaster administration skills.
What you want is a nice, orderly plan for this contingency...
Nice and orderly is never going to happen no matter how many times you plan for it. It is not a fire drill... It is a catstrophic, unexpected force of nature...
I don't care if you have file drawers filled with plans... human nature and just the circumstances work against you....
The Superdome had nothing to do with the levees failing. It had to do with riding out the hurricane. The people became trapped when the levees failed. Can you tell the difference?
Again, nice/orderly...not going to happen.
Who asked for nice and orderly. I'm asking for functional and safe.
DO WE HAVE A TRANSCRIPT OF HIS SPEECH WHEN HE ARRIVED?
Understand now, sorry about that.
