President to speak at 9am ...
Clueless.
I will adress what I see needs addressing.
LOL!
Did you notice how that young girl kept her arm around him??
You can tell the genuineness of his concern for people by the way they respond to him. That young girl trusted him enough to put her arm around him as a friend.
Very revealing..........and touching.
How many disaster zones does it take? There really isn't room for error when 100,000 lives are at stake. If H.S. can't accomplish what it's set up to do, it needs to be re-tooled. Good Lord, I never thought I'd see the day that FR champions the failures of a bloated, ill-led bureaucracy like HS.
I agree, but what do you make of the cities I listed?
I'll be honest, I don't know what I would have done....I'm glad he is doing something now, but I just think he should have promopted action a couple of days ago.
I think GWB is a man of character, honesty, and integrity...I just get frustrated when he talks big and delivers low (Social Security, the whole "dead or alive" comment about Osama Bin Laden, etc.)
Thank you for that.
In situations like this it always seems to move in slow motion for the people who are watching or the people who are suffering. For the people pulling twenty some hour days trying to bring the relief everything is moving at hyper-speed and they are trying desperately to avoid making any mistakes. Beating them over the head and telling them to go faster is not helpful and it just adds to everybody's anxiety
No, but you need clarity to help navigate the political reality. If you can't see that, nobody can help you, sorry.
Why? Because you need that? The President declared a national disaster on SATURDAY, before it hit. What about Gulfport? The local officials have it under control. The system was/is working there.
It is obvious that you are going to criticize the President no matter what he does, or does not do.
If anyone is 'clueless' it is one who worries about perception more than reality.........and that describes you to a "T".
To say that they should have known on Saturday that the levees would fail, that NO would be utterly destroyed, and the Gulf Coast obliterated and be prepared for that contingency... is disingeneous. It looks and sounds good on Friday, but was not a reasonable position to take a week ago.
People did not leave because most had survived hurricanes before and took pride in the fact that they had even outlasted Camille. What was the worse that could happen?
Again...the plan to huddle people in the Superdome had to do with hurricane.. not the failure of the levees...which is the problem.
When things fail so catastrophically, you can't fix it in 10 hours... I don't care if you need it to play out in the media that way. It can't be done. It's not reasonable. This is not Hollywood where we wrap up a good disaster in 3 hours... It's not possible. Yes, it's taking time because it just is. That's the nature of the beast.
If you doubt that perception is more important than reality (a premise accepted in politics, advertising, and other areas), you just don't get it.
IMO, also, cities like Los Angeles are watching this scenario unfold to add to their list of incitements to riot locally.
Fine. But do not not expect any further replies if you are incapable of addressing the substance of my remarks. HitmanNY, to credit, has done just that and we've been having a decent debate.
So have others. It means nothing when debating a point.
The engineers of those dikes did. There was a $2 billion construction project underway at the time to shore up the dikes. They were $250 million short of completion.
P.S. I checked the pings and guess what, not once was Bush being blamed. So, Ms. Two Year Veteran of the Forum, find the post and get back to me. And, do me a favor, don't get back to me unless you have all this, ok? There are more informed folks on here I would rather converse with. Oh, by the way, Oprah is one in two hours.
Somehow, I touched a real raw nerve with you, because I have never met a brand-new sign up as obnoxious and insulting as you are.
Been banned before and you're back to stir up the pot?

I LIKE GWB
Do you? Really?
Yes, I actually do....just because I don't agree with 100% of his every move and I don't think he is right all the time like some people, doesn't mean I don't. That's one thing that frustrates me about FR...if someone dares to even say that GWB or the Republicans MIGHT be wrong on an issue, they're labeled as a flaming liberal from DU. I campaigned for Bush (twice), voted for him (twice), and still support my president. I just don't think he has handled this particular instance, and some others, well.
