NIGHTMARE OF ROBBERY, FILTH, DEATH & RAPE IN SUPERDOME
NY Post ^ | 9/2/05 | LUKAS I. ALPERT

Posted on 09/02/2005 2:54:29 AM PDT by jimbo123

As buses finally started arriving to pluck refugees from the Louisiana Superdome yesterday, a horrifying picture emerged of the squalor, violence and mayhem that they faced during the days spent huddled in the stadium.

Twenty-five thousand miserable people — many of whom lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina — hunkered down with little food and little water, overflowing toilets, stifling heat and the unbearable stench of human waste.

Children slept in pools of urine. Crack vials littered the bathrooms. Bloodstains smeared the walls near vending machines that had been pried open. Gunfire has ricocheted down the corridors.

There were two reports of rape, one involving a child. Three people died — one a distraught man who jumped to his death, saying he had nothing left to live for.

"We pee on the floor. We are like animals," Taffany Smith, 25, told the Los Angeles Times, while she gripped her 3-week-old son in her arms.

Supplies were dangerously low, with one mother saying officials told her to reuse diapers by scraping them out when they got dirty.

-snip-

"There is feces on the walls," said Bryan Hebert, 43. "There is feces all over the place."

Sounds like they already have. Somebody else said before, where are the paratroopers?

"....Al Qaeda will find a way to harness the permanent welfare class...."

They already have. I have always thought that we better watch the "Black Muslim" movement in our country. They are the enemy within. Recruiting in prisons is high i.e. Mike (Maleek) Tyson.

What we are seeing in NO is a mini-version of what will happen if we are ever attacked. Angry young black males showing their true colors.

We are seeing the result of 40 years of welfare, which destroys the incentive to work, self-reliance, and family. I see many women holding babies but no fathers in sight. If there is someone to blame, I point my finger at pro-welfare democrats who created the monster that we are seeing on TV.

What happens when Democrat politicians and their constituents are not held in check by the GOP.

They would do this to the entire country if given half a chance.

If this is the behaviour of those inside the dome, who would want to welcome these folks into their cities?

My wife asked me about taking in a refugee. With three small children in the house, I told her no way-- there's no way I would take that chance.

the feces problem could happen to any of us, but I'm far from making excuses for what is happening down there overall. Its pandemonium in the original sense of the word.

"They already have."

Absolutly, they have been indoctrinating in minority areas since the 60's..

Paratroopers.

And you would extract these men from the area, how?

You would feed them, house them, provide the inevitable medical services, how?

Most people think the military can just appear and then leave by magic.

There must be a potable water supply, safe food, all the services a city would require.

NO has NONE of those things right now and most important of all, there is no security either.

....rapes, murders, feces all over, shooting at rescuers? Who is doing that? Not the hurricane, Not the rescuers.

Best I can tell from CNN, it is President Bush.

The entire world is watching. They are seeing every aspect. This includes our enemies. Tactics of warfare would be compelling them to strike fast and strike fierce. We must maintain vigilance

Yes. And as each day passes, and we still see people stranded on overpasses and rooftops without food or water (day 5 now???), it just shows up how unprepared we really are.

Any major city could face a similar disaster -- terrorists or Mother Nature.

Shep Smith (FoxNews) has been on one overpass for 4 days. The people there still have no food or water. And that is just 1 out of hundreds of groups of stranded.

Shep Smith said it best (Thursday): Officials (local government) lost control at the start and never have been able to regain it.

Too many local and National politicians have been back-patting themselves for their meetings and plans, but at this stage of a crisis, the people need DOERS not planners, not politicians rushing to microphones to applaud themselves.

This has turned into an unbelievable, incomprehensible fumble by officials/government personnel at all levels.

I can't believe the fiasco situation developing in Houston at the Astrodome. Surely, surely, the government officials could have realized the max capacity. This is turning into another example of 'stupid' on the Tex officials' parts.

These gulf refugees need a Guliani -- someone to take control and get things coordinated.

How does the military function in a war zone? Leave? They leave when they move everyone OUT of NO. Food, treat it like a battlezone, you're on battle rations. Don't tell me they can't deal with it.

If I didn't know this article was about Katrina, I'd have thought it was an article out of inner city Oakland, CA. With good people screaming to be helped and kept safe from gangstas, pedophiles, etc. In the 90s, decent people in Oakland, CA were beginning for help against criminals which had taken over the streets. And these residents were being targeted by thugs for speaking up. It was normal for children to learn to sleep and play below the level of gunfire. And no natural disaster precipitated this type of "living".

You put 25,000 people in a confined space without sanitation and they produce a very large amount of bodily wastes that will accumulate at the rate of something like 50tons per day. I'm sure a section of the facility could have been set aside for defecation and urination or other measures could have been taken that could have prevented the worst of this contamination. But the sheer volume of the material would have been the same regardless of where it was deposited.

Clearly the local officials are incompetent. Bush needs to appoint a kick ass leader like Rudi, Kerack or Gen. Powell to take charge. What is so hard about sending in an air mobile military unit to secure the major gathering places like the Convention Center and the Superdome and bring in massive amounts of water, food and medicine to those spots and then send small teams to patrols all over the city to search for survivors and shoot on sight armed gangs.
