I heard the mayor of NO on CNN blaming everyone but himself. He did not take any responsibility at all.
He is the mayor ! NYC survived in chaos due to Gulliani and his leadership.I realize this is like night and day but how dare the mayor not include himself in the situation?
Sorry, but unless someone I know well here at FR tells me it's ok, I aint downloading anything. I just rebuilt my PC and I aint doing it again.
Listening to the mayor of NO freak out isn't high enough on my priority list. It's just above "1098. Clean lint out of belly button (use dredging tool)"
My favorite was "... a few knuckleheads... the small majority" (re: looters)
People get paid to game out doomsday planning, The Mayor and the Governor have to be complete morons not to have thought about this. Who should know the populace and how they would act? The Mayor! When you are the Mayor it is your responsibility to make sure the bases are covered. People say they did not know what to do, who's fault is that? These people should have been told what to do if they got stuck. Before the storm. Every year! We have tornado safety re-education every year. Every Year, here's what to do in the case of a tornado, here's what to do if there is a flood, here is what to do if there is a blizzard. Our Government puts that info out there when the sky is blue and the clouds are puffy. It's tragic that these folks do not have a clue how to help themselves.
I don't hear the mayor 'going nuts'.
I hear him saying he can't get upper officials (state, Fed) to send the necessary help. All he is hearing is: Help is coming. And it is now day 5 and no help still for many areas.
I hear the mayor crying for help.
[We can get people and equipment to the other side of the globe in 12 hours or less, so why hasn't massive amounts of help -- personnel and supplies -- been sent in the gulf coast area? Preparedness? We've spent $billions on plans and committees to supposedly be prepared. What a waste. Literally thousands of people are still stranded on overpasses and rooftops -- 5 days later.]
It's ok but listen to Rush or Hannity today and you'll get the bulk of it.
I got a huge kick out of the MI governor warning potential looters that police had been ordered to take the "rules of engagement to the full extent of the law" {paraphrased but close]
IMO his use of military terminology made most looters have second thoughts.
Boy, you fell for it bigtime. Sad. A FReeper!!! I feel like crying. Think I will.
From the reports I'm hearing, at least one police station is under fire. Police are firing back. They can't help any survivors when they're fighting for their own lives WITH the public. There is NO REASON for the police station to be under attack.
The looters must know that Barbour don't play!
I'm not arguing with you per se..I just think that sometimes shit happens..Let's assume that in the middle of last week, the mayor had ordered a mandatory evacuation...cost in millins..many wouldn't go..and you'd have looting and crime in the city..and then the storm does a 180, and misses the city...what would they be saying now..
I saw two different shows on both History Channel and Discovery Channel that outlined the threat. All these city officials knew as well. They were too busy hosting stealing elections and hosting homosexual orgies in the streets like Southern Decadence to care.
If I am the Mayor I would say and if it had happened you would have been safe. At least I would not have thousands of people dead and a riot on my hands with my cops being shot at.
Don't know about FNC but I've been watching streaming video from two NO stations: WWLTV and WDSU
I just heard what he said......oh man.
Weren't all major American cities told to develop disaster plans after 9/11?
Did N.O. not do that?
There should have been something. At least they should have begun to think of what their particular issues would be. One would think that the levy's would be one particular worry for N.O.
At least they should have prioritized their issues even if they did nothing to actually do anything about them.
For instance, why did they move prisoners before moving citizens? How about prioritizing which people to handle first? The sick/pregnant, elderly, babies/children, women, men.
Why not have medicines, and sand bags stored somewhere?
These things are so basic. I assume the city was provided federal funds for such planning and implementation. Am i wrong?
Nagin'll start babbling about his strawberries next...
