I don't hear the mayor 'going nuts'.

I hear him saying he can't get upper officials (state, Fed) to send the necessary help. All he is hearing is: Help is coming. And it is now day 5 and no help still for many areas.

I hear the mayor crying for help.

[We can get people and equipment to the other side of the globe in 12 hours or less, so why hasn't massive amounts of help -- personnel and supplies -- been sent in the gulf coast area? Preparedness? We've spent $billions on plans and committees to supposedly be prepared. What a waste. Literally thousands of people are still stranded on overpasses and rooftops -- 5 days later.]

I'd like to know what the Mayor and his city council did with the $$$$ they recieved to plan and prepare for disaster. there is NO planning from what I've seen, nothing.

being a major port of entry don't you think that NO and the state would have come up with a PLAN? one that could at least have SUPPLIES for a week or two? One article I read said people going into the dome were to bring supplies and expect to stay for up to 5 days. New Orleans did not even have adequet supplies and equiptment in their dome to take care of those who were evacuated there from what I've read, I hope that turns out to be wrong but it sure looks that way now. THe federal gov. can not make plans for every city in the US, that's why the allocated funds to the cities to plan and set up. \

as for response time, the guard needs to be called up, if it isn't thier state they have to load and transport equiptment. I beleive that when Bush declared the emergency they did start their callups and begin planning....which is more then the state of LA seems to have done. when the first troops arrived they probalby had the duty of setting up a base somewhere to work from. I think they've done great.

It also takes time to call in personal and supply the huge ships the navy is sending in. I wonder how many of those ships sent after the tusami were actually already out of port before that diaster, all those things do make a difference in how long it takes to get from point a to point b. I have no idea how long those ships had been in port, if they needed a few hours to reload them, or even how quickly they could get personal back from leaves

That mayor should never have been elected to his job. He is a disgrace. He does not have a clue as to what to do.
