Let me clarify some more...the other states are devastated but the moaning and groaning and whining that is occurring in New Orleans isn't happening there. The other states have handled it as well as Florida. I'm talking about Louisiana.
It was like those secret trips to Baghdad -- he just said turn this plane around, head for NO. I'm the President, I can do that. A helo would have had to have been a huge production -- he'll probably do that too -- but that big plane at 1700 feet...
I saw the 747 with the shuttle on it out my 22nd floor office window once... a non-sequitor, but those planes that close can take your breath away. Like the aircraft carrier and the bullhorn, a natural photo op that Clinton would never have come up with. I hope SOMEBODY got some footage. I saw a little.
I understand your feelings, but, you can't think that way -- Americans have to help Americans. In a tragic situation like Louisiana and Mississippi, politics must be put aside. The general welfare as a whole must come ahead of all other priorities. America is red, white and blue first, with being a democrat or republican way down on the list. Rest assured, like 9-11, that what is being done now, will eventually be criticized, and politicized by the left, and MSM! Be prepared to hear a lot of should have, would have, could have!
I am not saying this to be cruel to the people in New Orleans as you read it but If Cindy Sheehans crowd showed up to the Superdome their Hygiene in comparison would be far worse than the poor people victimized by the hurricane.

Holy crap. Just holy crap.
When times get tough, people either rise to the occasion and handle adverse conditions with courage, dignity and intelligence, or they devolve into lower forms of human life.
What has taken place in the aftermath of Katrina, has shown Americans at their best and some Americans at their worst.
President Bush has done everything that is humanly under extreme adverse conditions. He declared Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana disaster zones before the hurricane struck the gulf coast. This event might be the greatest natural disaster in US history. At least on par with the great San Francisco earthquake of the early 1900`s and the Chicago fire of the 1870's.

I fully grant you that, but New Orleans is an urban center, and the MS-AL coast is not. Whole different ballgame. I'm sure Jeb would have done a better job than the people we have now, who are clearly in over their heads. But the task would still be overwhelming, and I think you'd still see a lot of the same problems.

MUST EVERYTHING BE BUSH'S FAULT?: I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm still taken aback by the lengths to which some on the left will go to try and blame this president. Thankfully, Danielle Crittenden provides the laundry list so I don't have to.
But here's one Crittenden missed: Amy Branham, the mother Army Sgt. Jeremy Smith and a member of Cindy Sheehan's contingent in Crawford, blames President Bush for her son's death in February 2004. Except Branham's son wasn't killed in Iraq, he died in a car accident in Texas:
She [Branham] said her son never would have been at Fort Hood, near where he died, had he not been going to a war that she now believes is "illegal and unjust."
The willingness to blame Bush for random occurances, acts of terror like 9/11, and acts of nature like the one just witnessed in the Gulf is symptomatic of a partisanship so severe it borders on a psychosis.
It's quite possible that by the time the disaster we've been watching unfold in New Orleans is over, President Bush and his administration will share a portion of the blame. But some aspects of the tragedy were simply beyond control, and it's impossible to absolve local and state officials of responsibility for their role in managing the crisis.
