It's going to get real interesting when there is nothing left to loot and they start looting each other. Free booze, guns, drugs, and bling. Oh yeah. It's going to get ugly. er.

If I were with my wife and child who were injured, and I ended up going out into town once I was sure they were safe, and there was no rescue effort that I could see, and when I went to the food store the shelves were empty, but the sneaker store next door had sneakers, I would probably take the sneakers to exchange for food at some point.

This is not a black and white issue but one with various shades of gray. I have a feeling that many here, including me, would take what they needed in order to survive if the circumstances were right.

Heck they could have ridden in the back of a pickup if nothing else
Yup, I'm with you.

Yeah, I'm sure there were hundreds of empty pickups driving out of the projects that would have gladly given rides (to where?) to folks in wheel chairs, with new babies, oxygen tanks, and the elderly.

You may be a lot closer to this than I. And I'll admit I haven't had time to track these two. You may be right. This is a very tough situation at best.

ever heard of states' rights? don't believe the Prez can just "send in the Army" into any state. the aid has to be requested, and therein lies the problem. the mayor and governor appear to be weak, and paralyzed, and unaware of same to the point that they haven't requested the obvious. send in Rudy G and Bernard Kerik, pullleaaaseee.

no way. this is working out right. let the governor of that state issue the shoot on sight orders. Bush needs no part of the media smear that would accompany this by federalizing it.

"Good start but a better one would be to resign and let someone competant manage this, cause clearly the Dems in the state are out of their league. Let Rudy take over."

I agree.

The major of N.O. is a complete incompetent and should resign asap.

Democratic mayors in large urban areas (including MANY in the South) have made a habit of appeasing the criminal element for years.

Their approach to criminality is roughly the same as American liberals' approach to fighting Communism--a weak, half-hearted effort at best and a wink-and-a-smile attitude at worst.

Fagin and Blanco's pussyfooting around the looting situation shows just how deep their fear (or love?) of these criminals goes. Now they are set to reap the whilrwind, and it ain't gonna be pretty.

New Orleans, LA meet Mogadishu, Somalia.
