President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Does it matter what they want? What is the point you are making?
Did anyone answer cajungirl's question about how many looters there are in NOLA? Is it hundreds or a few gangs of ten?
Exactly what I've been trying to tell people all day today. N.O. is virtually GONE... home of nearly a million people and associated business. A city that took hundreds of years to build. This is not any typical "flooding" event - it is unprecedented in American history.
Do you think it's FEMA's responsibility to provide shelter to every person who left because of Katrina wherever they might go?
I mean, if they drive to Ohio, are we to shelter them?
No. More details please.
Is Nagin done due to the Incidence of National Significance that was implemented putting DHS in charge?
Thanks for your service. I just saved your "In Forum" page because of so many great references to our military's service during the Katrina disaster.
How many people returned to Sioux Falls or whatever city flooded in SD or ND or wherever it was...then burned down
Wow - that was some video! Thanks.
Ditto. And the people I am seeing are not evacuees. They are refugees.
Thank you. I was about to faint.
Per WTHR-Indianapolis
Indiana Task Force One (9/11 fame) arrived in Mississippi today, and has already affected thier first rescue....
About time. I thought he should have been dethroned long ago.
You mean Grand Forks? I'm pretty sure things are back to normal up there. Haven't heard anything otherwise.
That's crap -- if Benson wants the Saints in San Antonio, the NFL should go pound salt. First LA loses the Rams, then the Raiders, and now they want another team?
It used to be in SoCal, you would fill up a stadium for baseball and football at the same time and then all of us sports people moved to flyover country and attendance dropped with the liberals in charge! (Just kidding!)
1. Don't forget the potential for nationwide health problems due to cholera, hepatitis, etc. etc. carried from NO elsewhere by the refugees.
2. This has the potential to send the US into a major recession. Increased fuel prices, translate into increased prices for all other goods: coupled of course with massive increase in Fed expenditures.
And all the while the utterly corrupt LA officials are chortling in public over all the Federal money that they think they will soon get to control.
I am literally too angry at them to have any words.
Prayers for all!
Full Disclosure: At this point, the prayers for the officials are through clenched teeth...
No cheers, due to Katrina.
Is it still burning? I've been gone.
Grand Forks, I think most people returned, if not more.
Grand Forks?
140,000?
