"Moreover, the homeowners are being offered buyouts based on the market rate as it was in 2000." Ouch!

Unlike the looters in New Orleans these people really ARE being oppressed by the system.

Time to take the city to court for failing to maintain the crowds during the period they have claimed to own the land.
Specifically naming each member of the board in the suit and then file in civil court for them to maintain the land causing emotional distress and damage.

If these folks are paid up on their property taxes then the "rent" argument goes right out the window. Not to mention the lack of a signed lease agreement with the so-called "tenants".
Prior to the USSC's decision on this matter I'd expect the courts to throw out any such case. Now I'm not holding my breath.

That's depressing, disturbing, and frightening all at the same time...poor people. As George Washington said, "Government, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a terrible master." That will teach these minions to question the actions of their government! They should have been sent to a labor camp in ANWR the insolent anarchists. *is a sarcasm tag necessary?*

So they have to pay property taxes AND back rent for those five years?
What I would do in this situation, I better not disclose at this time.

Was Sandra Day O'Connor in the majority on Kelo? If so, the people who lost on that case should file a request for rehearing as soon as Roberts is confirmed, and have that be the first case reversed by the newly constituted court. It would be a good example of what happens when out of control judges are replaced by real judges. I could just see Justice Roberts writing some sarcastic and witty opinion about how "public use" doesn't mean "private use".

They should charge the city for tending the properties. (i.e. mowing the grass, trimming the hedges, etc.) I would be billing the city for everything I could think of.
If I go to a city park, do I have to pay rent?
Did they sign a renters agreement with their supposed landlord (the city)?

I would burn down my home, sell the dirt of the entire lot to a depth of 30ft and then fill the lot trench with toxic waste.

Hitler finds a home in New London.

I Live in CT, And was watch a public access Channel with residents from various towns presenting arguments at at state hearing.
It was disgusting. In New London They have been systematically targeting middle class neighborhoods and bulldozing whole city blocks. With no plan, They started out with one site where they were going to put a Coast Guard museum, then it was going to be a warehouse then they dropped that idea and now are looking for something else.
New London used to have a pop of 35,000 now it is 25,000.
In New Haven the town (Dem Mayor 12 years) are using eminent domain for 12 waterfront houses.
In Derby Ct They are using eminent Domain to condemn multiple buildings. One business owner kicked out of his property bought another piece nearby that was unaffected by the original plan now has the developer suing for that piece he just bought.
Another Business owner with a small lock and safe business who employed 12 people was a Polish immigrant in 1969 and came to The US to build a future for him and his children. He Made the point that he would be happy to move if the town would pay for equivalent building and land. The town refused because they said they need to give the developer a decent profit margin as an incentive. His response was he did not work all these years to have the developers children profit from his labors.
The Derby Developer's Project involved some retail and 280 apt's. Which now has become 700 apt's. My guess is that demand locally cannot fill them so he will fill them with section 8's out of Bridgeport. Creating more of a burden on a small (income modest) local community with education and other services.
These people are all thieves with no morals and are criminal trustees of the public trust

Where's Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin, Babs Streisand, Martin Sheen, Shawn Penn and other big-mouthed, large-walleted (to buy lawyers) celebrities? Where's the ACLU?
I'm not one to advocate civil disobediance, but this is a case where these people could use some intervention and serious publicity.

SCOTUS is responsible for a ruling that will result in more corruption and death. Is everybody comfortable with that? They have enabled more crime by corrupt officials. Does anyone believe this is good law? Shouldn't the "Justices" that rendered this awful decision be brought to JUSTICE?

I would suggest they sue again, for "just compensation" and maybe the court delays and appeals will put it into a SCOTUS with Roberts on it and Sooter questioning his earlier decision.
