WAL-MART A GOOD CITIZEN?
Federal Review ^ | 08/30/2005 | marblehead17

This may or may not be true. I just heard a Fox reporter say that a Wal-Mart in the New Orleans area opened it doors and told people to go get what they need to survive. If true, good for you Wal-Mart!

Never mind the fact that I bought a 27 inch Sanyo flat-screen there and it works beautifully.

You obviously got a "non-Friday" production run piece.

What choice do they have? Can't keep them out and they are going to break in anyways and steal the crap out of the store! This makes them look better from a PR standpoint to use against Democraps that seek to destroy Walmart because of their non-union stance!

N.O. is now the Big Easy for looting!

They can't be looting if they were given permission.

I heard the same report.
They should give away all the clothes and food. I would think they could not retail it now. So WalMart created a great PR move.

I just don't like shopping there. It gives me a headache. Give me a small local store any time--I'm done lots sooner, and I don't get headaches. I'm sure it's fine for most people, just not me.

Yeah. I hope it's not true, but that was what FNC was reporting a few minutes ago.

"Looting" is when people take things WITHOUT permission. This isn't looting. And if firefighters and National Guard personnel are taking things that have been offered by the owner, they are most likely taking them to use in their efforts to help people. They're better equipped than most people to distribute the items to where they're most desperately needed.

The riot/stampede, however, was predictable. This happens all to frequently at stores which have simply offered a deal like wedding dresses for $100. I'm sure Wal-Mart meant well, but they would have done better to just invite uniformed emergency workers to take whatever they needed -- not the whole population.

My donations to the relief effort will go through Wal-mart tomorrow. I understand you can donate at any of their stores.

They led the charge on this, regardless of ones opinion of their practices.

I believe it.

I like Walmart despite the demonization of them by others that wish they had the same success.

FNC said the FF and Guardsmen were detailed to keep order for the giveaway, but just joined in when things broke down.

Actually, it's good business and good PR. The Wal-Marts there are closed, donchknow. For a good piece. All that frozen food, dairy, everything. Toast.

You got that right. They stepped up and they got good PR for what they DID. I will certainly remember their helping hand to a community in need when it comes time for me to do my Christmas shopping.

Smart move. 1. It's all a loss anyhow. 2. Insured unless they're self insured. 3. If insured, it sure ain't Allstate or State Farm. Lloyds maybe. And the BIG #4! I always stop by Walmart on my way fleeing a hurrcane!!!

I should also mention that having 123 Wal-Marts closed in those parts is quite a hit.
