I think there is a stong impression that Mayor Nagin and Gov Blanco were really caught with their pants down and as the situation grows increasingly out of control (stranded folks at the Superdome, lots of open looting, etc.) they haven't risen to the occasion at all.

No confidence in their leadership at all.

HOW is the question do you get 10,000 plus out of a city with water filled streets? Prayers to all involved!

If this situation wasn't so tragic, I might agree with you.

But since it is tragic, I don't!

"We're not even dealing with dead bodies," Nagin said. "They're just pushing them on the side."

How awful.

And not just local. Can you imagine a John Kerry presiding over a country as much at risk as New Orleans now is?

BTW, Haley Barbour has done a terrific job in MS. Some thought he wasn't presidential material at one time, but in my book, he is.

Call the military, tell them you need 100,000 people moved out of N.O., tell them they have a blank check, sit back and watch.

Nagin speaks with almost no authority, and actually makes me feel less secure about the situation when he speaks than more secure about the situation.

This isn't partisan - Mayor Bloomberg in NYC has the same effect on me. His calming words actually make people more alarmed, I think.

Blanco is another matter entirely. She has a wide-eyed look about her that suggests she is better suited for work at the customer service desk at Walmart and not the Govs mansion. Events are driving her (rather than she driving events) and she looks downright scared and confused.

Again, I have zero confidence in these folks. My best hope is that there are competent people near them (law of averages) and somebody steps up and calls the shots - not a revolt of course, but somebody needs to take charge of the situation and the first step is taking charge of Nagin and Blanco.

What a stark contrast to stones of steel Rudy G.

It looks like they are taking those folks the wrong way, if they need to evacuate the dome.

Send several cruise ships to the docks in New Orleans. Load the stranded people on these floating hotels and take them to Baton Rouge or other Gulf Ports. It is possible to do and quick.
