Nagin speaks with almost no authority, and actually makes me feel less secure about the situation when he speaks than more secure about the situation.

This isn't partisan - Mayor Bloomberg in NYC has the same effect on me. His calming words actually make people more alarmed, I think.

Blanco is another matter entirely. She has a wide-eyed look about her that suggests she is better suited for work at the customer service desk at Walmart and not the Govs mansion. Events are driving her (rather than she driving events) and she looks downright scared and confused.

Again, I have zero confidence in these folks. My best hope is that there are competent people near them (law of averages) and somebody steps up and calls the shots - not a revolt of course, but somebody needs to take charge of the situation and the first step is taking charge of Nagin and Blanco.

What a stark contrast to stones of steel Rudy G.

rather than she driving events I would tend to cut them some slack, I have never tried but it may be difficult to drive a hurricane.

The FEDERAL government should declare martial law (not thelocal govt), and get those two wothless RATs out of the picture. Either that, or draft Rudi Guliani or some clear thinking non-RAT to run things.

Were Nagin and Blanco reading 'My Pet Goat' to school children when the hurricane hit?

Blanco reminds me of Edith Bunker of All in the Family with some of her comments. She is so far over her head that she would be better off to resign immediately and turn it over to the Lt Governor who couldn't be any worse.

As for the Mayor of N.O. -- words defy what I think of him for not ordering an evacuation sooner than Sunday morning.

I agree.
In a crisis situation like this, you must have a strong and decisive leader. The mayor and governor look like deer in the headlights and their weakness cannot be having a positive effect on the trapped and desolate citizens.
We can't be the only ones thinking this .
The shock will soon become anger .
A strong and reassuring leader must emerge soon or this situation could reach a tipping point and descend into uncontrollable chaos.
